After a moment, Sunder Ryan steps out onto the entry ramp, and makes his way to the ring as fast as he can, given his condition. He does not acknowledge the crowd, although they're cheering him. Ann #1: Here he is. I can only assume we're going to hear some kind of speech from Ryan now. Ann #2: It's genuinely amazing that Sunder Ryan is here at ALL tonight! Just three days ago at Wednesday Unleashed...well, there's no way to describe it. Let's take a look at what happened. At Unleashed Sunder Ryan and Chris Steele teamed up to take on Fear and Loathing, and after over thirty minutes of some of the most brutal competition the SFWL has ever seen, Sunder Ryan put EVERYTHING on the line... (As Sunder Ryan makes his way to the ring, the scene cuts to footage of Wednesday Unleashed. "Unleashed - 03/07/02" is displayed at the bottom of the screen.) They're brawling at the top of the entrance ramp. Brian Bowers rams Sunder Ryan into a stack of speakers. Brian Bowers ducks through the entryway. He returns with a steel chair. Ann #1: Bowers has a chair! Brian Bowers takes a huge swing with the chair, but Sunder Ryan ducks out of the way. Ann #2: Absolutely MASSIVE swing by Bowers, but Sunder Ryan able to dodge it! Brian Bowers takes a huge swing with the chair, but Sunder Ryan ducks out of the way. Sunder Ryan spears Brian Bowers off the entrance ramp. A "holy shit" chant starts up. T.J.: Oh my God! Brian Bowers took another huge cut with that chair, but Ryan crouched out of the way, then leapt right at Bowers with a spear! It was all one fluid motion for Ryan - as soon as Brian Bowers was off balance, Sunder Ryan speared him! Kid: He knocked Bowers off the side of the ramp, but he went down with him! Both men just fell off the entrance ramp into the staging area below! F.T.J Macky: And on that weak leg, Bowers couldn't even brace himself against Ryan! As soon as Ryan hit him, they both went right over the side of the ramp! Sunder Ryan is out cold. Brian Bowers is out cold. Kid: This is not good! Both men are hurt! Bob Leardi checks on Sunder Ryan. Sunder Ryan doesn't respond. Bob Leardi checks on Brian Bowers. Brian Bowers doesn't respond. T.J.: Bob Leardi has no idea what to do here! It's a no-DQ, no-countout match, but it's NOT falls count anywhere...even if one of them COULD go for a cover, it wouldn't count! Kid: Ryan and Bowers, the legal men, appear unable to continue, and they certainly can't get back to the ring to make a tag! And even if they COULD, I don't think Steele and Reid are in much condition to fight, either! The fans are stomping and clapping in time, cheering Sunder Ryan on. Bob Leardi starts counting both men down. T.J.: Bob Leardi doing the only thing he CAN do in this situation! He's issuing a ten-count on both men! Kid Ramon: If neither man can continue, this match will be thrown out! Bob Leardi counts: One, two, three, four... T.J.: No signs of movement yet! The decibel level in the building is unbelievable. ...five, six, seven... The fans are tearing the roof off. ...eight, nine, ten. Bob Leardi is calling for the bell. The crowd falls quiet. (The scene cuts back to ringside.) Ann #1; Both Sunder Ryan and Brian Bowers spent Wednesday night in the hospital, but we have reason to believe that Sunder Ryan suffered the more serious injuries of the two. Not only did his neck already sustain considerable damage from the events of the match - AND of Bowers' assault last Saturday - but look at the positioning. Bowers fell BACKWARD off the ramp, allowing him to at LEAST distribute his weight over a broader area. Sunder Ryan, as he speared Bowers, went off face-first, with his head directly underneath Bowers' arm. I don't know if Bowers landed on top of him, or if it was just the shock of the landing, but Sunder Ryan took a MAJOR risk, and he suffered for it. Sunder Ryan labouriously steps into the ring, and immediately asks for a microphone. The ring announcer hands him one, and quickly walks off. Sunder Ryan is met with a tremendous reaction from the fans. Ann #1: I'm a little apprehensive about this. Ryan's not one to take a large risk on his entire career, and being here in the same building with Bowers would be a perfect equation for that sum. The music stops, and the crowd settles down. Ryan is standing in the middle of the ring, nodding his head. Ryan: It would be typical of me to come out here tonight and call out Brian Bowers. It would be typical for me to issue a threat..."Bowers!" I would say, "You're life in return for my glory." He shakes his head. Ann #2: But I guess he's not going to do that. Ryan: But there would no logical reason for me to do such a thing. It would be counteractive to the greater scheme of things. It would only endanger my already battered body, and put me in a situation where I would be facing a man at everything short of 100%. Ann #1: That's no lie. Ryan's hurt, quite possibly worse than he's letting on. He shakes his head again. Ryan: Bowers, I know that you're probably back there somewhere, listening to every word I'm saying. You're thinking to yourself what a fool I am for showing my face today in the condition I'm in, and you're probably wondering what my motives are, considering the evasiveness I've used in pointing them out. Ann #2: That's unusual for Ryan. I thought he was straight foward kind of guy. He laughs. Ryan: I can just picture you and your ape sitting in the Shin Jun Rui locker room with scowls written across your faces, about an inch away from the door and ready to just BURST through it and charge me. Well... A large number of SFWL security staff come out of the crowd and circle the ring. Ryan: Only in the event that you'd want to come and share a few words, conduct an argument on the creative and moral disagreements we've had in the recent past... He pauses. Ryan: Then bestow upon these fans the great pleasure of your presence. Otherwise...refrain from bothering these good men with the task of escorting you away. it would be unfortunate for ANOTHER SFWL superstar to spend a night in jail - or wherever they tend to take your kind. Ann #1: So he IS calling Bowers out? Ann #2: I don't think we're going to see any of the physical violence typical of a Shin Jun Rui appearance. Sunder Ryan waits in the ring. The crowd is not sure how to react. "The Antipop" by Primus begins blaring over the PA. The crowd immediately starts booing. Ann #1: That's Bowers' music! He IS coming out here! Brian Bowers, flanked by Wayne Reid and Kate Elliot, both of whom are carrying shovels, emerges from the entryway and stands at the top of the ramp. Brian Bowers is wearing a black knee brace over his khakis, and it's visible through his shirt that his ribs are taped. Ann #2: And he's got Reid and Kate Elliot with him! Brian Bowers asks for a microphone. A sound technician hands him one. Brian Bowers motions for his music to be cut. Brian Bowers: Ryan, you really are a fucking idiot, aren't you? I'm not talking about the fact that you showed up here tonight - that's the babyface perogative, to limp out to the ring despite your injuries, to soak up that sympathy heat, and I expected nothing less of you. No, I'm talking about the fact that you actually plan to CONTINUE wrestling after what happened at Wednesday Unleashed. I damn near broke your NECK in that match, and then YOU...YOU actually took it upon YOURSELF to try with that little ramp stunt! And now you're actually BACK out here, calling me out!? You need to learn how to take a fucking HINT! If I don't put you out, you'll do it to yourself anyway! Walk away now, Ryan, while you can still walk at ALL! Brian Bowers is being booed emphatically. Sunder Ryan: You're getting a little bit ahead of yourself, Mr. Bowers. As you so eligantly put it, I "damn near" broke my neck. I...ALMOST suffered a career-ending injury at Unleashed. Almost, Brian Bowers... He shakes his head. Ryan: But not quite. For all your talk, Bowers, for all your whining and useless goating and excessive rambling, I stand here still. I stand here not despite you, but because I want to. The crowd pops. Numerous "Sunder Ryan" chants start up. Brian Bowers: Right, Ryan. That's great. You're still here, all right, and you practically needed to be LIFTED into the ring! You're still here with a neck that one minor impact will fucking SHATTER! You had your chance to go out BIG tonight, Ryan! You had your chance at a real MOMENT, the kind of moment that people remember for decades! You could have had the retirement that wrestlers with THIRTY YEAR careers dream about - except for the excruciating pain, of course - without having to do any of the work! All you had to do was come out here, vacate the title, have them replay the footage of your brave - but utterly ineffective - final strike against your enemy, and then walk away. But NO...what do we get? "I'M STILL HERE". The fans are wildly booing Brian Bowers. Ryan: The things that are ineffective, Mr. Bowers, are your attempts to make a clean statement. Nobody understands you... Ann 1: Do people understand Ryan? Ann 2: Not really. Ryan: And worse off, nobody really cares to either. Oh, you're all talk, Brian Bowers, but you've never taken a REAL risk in your entire...wasteful...Life. You wouldn't dare do a thing. The crowd roars its approval for Sunder Ryan. (Wayne Reid and Kate Elliot raise their shovels. The security staff regroup, cutting off the ring.) Brian Bowers: I would, Ryan. Believe me, I would. But I'm not going to. Not because of these goons here - I REALLY don't think the THREE of us would have much difficulty getting past a bunch of burnt-out former high school football players who couldn't QUITE make it through mall-cop training - but because, as you can see, I injured my knee in our match at Unleashed. Your cheap desperation tactic of backdropping me onto the guardrail inflicted some minor damage, and, on the advice of my doctor, I'll be wearing a brace for a couple of weeks, and taking it easy on my knee for the next few days. If I was to come down there, pick you up for a Tiger Driver '91 or a Sheer Drop DDT, and put an end to this for GOOD, there's a chance my knee could go out in the process. I'm not about to put myself on the shelf for MONTHS just to take you out, when I can just as easily do it NEXT week. Or the week after. Or whenever it's convenient for me, really. It's going to take a long time for that neck to heal, Ryan - believe me, I'll have all the opportunities I need. Brian Bowers is being booed out of the building. Sunder Ryan: Yes, it's funny that you would mention your..."taking me out", Brian Bowers. You see, I was under the impression that you were going to completely take me out in our match last Wednesday. Yet, NOW you say several weeks? A month? And what about when it doesn't work out then? What then, Bowers? Next year? Or maybe at Ultra Slam 26, when YOU come out of retirement to take one last shot at ME? Bowers is looking very pissed. Ryan: Frankly, Mr. Bowers...I think there's about an ounce of action for every gallon of spewed words in that body of yours. I guess it's about time for you to face to an inevitable fact... He pauses. Ryan: You're just not good enough to destroy me, Bowers...Not now...In a year...In an eon. It just...won't...happen. The fans are giving Sunder Ryan a standing ovation. Brian Bowers is livid. (Kate Elliot and Wayne Reid hold Brian Bowers back.) Brian Bowers: You don't think I can take you out, Ryan?! You don't think I can fucking end your career like THAT?! Well, why don't you put your money where your mouth is!? We've got a pay-per-view coming up...and I want a shot at the Intercontinental title! You'll get your chance to rest up, you'll get your chance to get back up to "100%" - although I have my suspicions that nothing short of a new fucking SPINE could REALLY bring you back to 100% - and then...then, Ryan, we'll SEE who's full of shit! So, what do you say? Are you THAT confident in yourself, that you'd stake your title AND whatever semblance of a career you have left against me? Sunder Ryan laughs. Ryan: If you want a shot at my title...You can have it! And if you'd also like to bring your petty sense of revenge along with it...Well, that's fine too. Just remember, Bowers: At Summer Scream, it's going to be you and I in the ring, one on one for the intercontinental title I've already beaten you for...Don't get your hopes up. You won't finish the job THIS time, either. The cheers for Sunder Ryan are deafening. (Brian Bowers attempts to charge the ring. Kate Elliot and Wayne Reid hold him back as the SFWL security staff forms a human barricade between the entrance ramp and the ring.) “This Is Your Life” by the Dust Brothers begins blaring over the PA again as Sunder Ryan carefully lowers himself out of the ring and exits through the service doors.
