During the semester you will read a minimum of 3 books (any two books plus the required text). Choose two books from our class library (or another source) that interest or provoke you. A number of questions will arise as you work in the classroom, reflect on your experiences, and participate in campus conversations. We ask that you are constantly reading as you explore the world of teaching. When you are asked to read professional literature, you may need to use the following survival technique: a) Skim the text in order to get the general gist of the material. Don't get bogged down reading each book in detail. Get an overview only (with a few areas that specifically relate to your practice). b) When you encounter some part of the text that provokes some reaction within you, read that section more carefully looking for clarification or supporting details. Journal articles will be assigned. It is expected that you will comment on these readings indicating the way they are influencing or connecting to your thinking about the seminar and teaching work of the semester. Keep any reflections on the readings in your "Pro in the Box".
