| What is Tarot? |
| It is a deck of cards with a spirit of knowing. The typical tarot deck has seventy-eight cards that are divided into twenty-two major arcana cards and fifty-six minor arcana cards. The major arcana are concerned with big issues that concern character and destiny. The minor arcana are concerned with circumstances and behavior and illustrate how the energy of the majors manifests in your daily life. The majors, numbered from zero to twenty-one, are ports in a journey that begins with the wildly innocent enthusiasm of the Fool and ends with the sophistication and knowledge of the World. They are the most powerful in the deck. Sometimes, the majors tell you all you need to know to understand the dynamics of a person's life. The minors are divided into four suits: wands, cups, swords, and pentacles. They correspond to the four elements, the four personality types, the four seasons. The suits are the building blocks of the minor arcana. Each suit is numbered from one through ten and has four court cards. The numbered cards, represent people or behavior patterns. |

The word "fortunetelling" has a bad rep, thanks in part to the media's depiction of card readers as your standard new age weirdos. The truth is we are all curious about what tomorrow may bring. The tarot itself may not give you names and dates, But it alerts you to the patterns of the past that have influenced patterns in the present, and it pinpoints patterns that may be operating in the future. The more conscious we are, the more clearly we percieve how we can reach our full potential. The clearer something appears to us, the better equipped we are to change the behaviors of the patterns that block the attainment of what we want. |
