The dead engine
Oops! This is a Navistar IDI block (I don't remember whether it's a 6.9l or a 7.3l). Note the nice crack in the lowermost piston, extending almost to the center (the valve cutouts partially hide the last little bit of the crack). This is what happens when you have a turbo, don't monitor the EGT and boost gauges, and have a fuel system problem.
