Sandhya Adnepos has taught English privately in Taiwan, Japan, India, and the People's Republic of China. She currently teaches at the American Language Institute at San Francisco State University, and hopes to continue teaching college-level ESL in the Bay Area after graduation from the MATESOL program. Sean Arnold has
taught ESL in America, and EFL in Russia, Thailand and England over the last
five years. He hopes to teach at a university or community college in the U.S.
or maybe Japan in the near future. Christine Casper is currently working in the Language Assistance Center at SFSU as a tutor and grammar workshop teacher. After graduation, she hopes to teach at a college or university in Sweden. Mavis (Yi-Fen) Chen is a funny girl who is humorous and loves to meet people. She is very imaginative and likes daydreaming. She believes that her dreams of traveling and experiencing various cultures will come true by becoming an English teacher and she is ready to go for the journey of exploring the world! Teresa Fang has been student teaching in the Intensive Learning Program (English 201/202) at SFSU for the past year. In the future, she is hoping to teach freshman ESL in college. Benjamin Finateri
currently teaches in the CBET program at Canada College. After graduation he
plans on traveling the world in search of vampires, black orchids, and
compassionate conservatism. He'll probably teach some English
too. Akiko Furukawa, who
strives to be creative in her career, hopes to use her new skills in English
instruction. She is planning to go back to Japan to teach
English. Yuko Ito has
taught Japanese at a public school in Colorado and assisted in teaching English
at CCSF. After a vacation, she hopes to teach at a private language institute as
a beginning of her career in Japan. Tomoko Kako has
enjoyed studying in the MATESOL program. Her experiences have increased her
skills not only in teaching English but in other areas of her life as well. She
is looking forward to going back to Japan to teach English and to dance
again! Tomoko Kawamata
has enjoyed student teaching at CCSF. After graduation, she's going to continue
studying to get a teaching credential in Japan, and hopes to teach at a high
school in the future. Erkan Karabacak taught ESP for two years at Ankara University, Turkey. He plans to use his one- year practical training teaching ESL in San Francisco. Frank Lev has worked in the Bay Area as an adult school ESL teacher for 9 years. He has also taught in Japan, Ecuador, and Taiwan. He is interested in using new technology in the classroom. Todd Lewis has taught EFL in Taiwan, Mexico, and Costa Rica and ESL in San Francisco for the past three years, making his M.A. TESOL experience truly meaningful. He hopes to use his experience and education to help 2L learners learn how to learn, in the USA and abroad. Sabrina Liao is a Taiwanese student who has spent last seven years at SFSU.
After finishing her undergraduate studies in Japanese, she joined the M.A. TESOL
family and has enjoyed her life ever since. She is now working with some
immigrant students at CCSF John Adams campus. She will return to Taiwan after
graduation and, of course, become an English
teacher.
Jennifer Mechling taught
Literacy at City College of San Francisco for one year before moving on to the
American Language Institute, where she is currently teaching Grammar, TOEFL
Preparation, and Multimedia Reporting. For the past two years she has enjoyed
taking students all over the Bay Area and the United States, teaching them
English and American culture. Makiko Muto, a Japanese high school teacher for four years, took a two year sabbatical from the school to attend the MA TESOL program. After graduation, she will bring the theories and practices with her to Japan. Akiko Nakano has a
teaching credential in English language instruction for Japanese high school and
junior high school levels. She is very excited about teaching high school
students in Japan in the near future, applying what she learned and experienced
in the TESOL program. Noriko Nishimoto
currently teaches a low intermediate OCS/listening course at the American
Language Institute on the SFSU campus. She will be a first-time Mom to Kyle this
July, and she hopes to teach ESL in the East Bay soon. Gretchen Owens has
loved studying in the MA TESOL program and getting exposure to a wide variety of
ESL settings. She currently teaches reading and writing, and grammar at the
American Language Institute at SFSU and hopes to go overseas as well as teach at
a community college in the future. So-Eun (April) Park is very happy to have been a part of the MS TESOL program at SFSU. This program has prepared her for an exciting career. She looks forward to practing her new skills in her home country, Korea, where she plans to teach English to high school students. Elizabeth Porcella
is quite happy to begin her teaching career. She loves languages and plans on
teaching EFL to instruct and also learn other languages. Clif Ross was a printer, writer and translator before entering the MA TESOL program and you can still find a few of his books at http://www.freedomvoices.org/. Tina Sander taught
EFL in Germany for 1 year and she’s been teaching ESL in the Bay Area for 3
years, first at an Intensive Language Program and then at two Adult Schools.
Upon graduation, she’ll continue teaching her beloved Adult Ed students as well
as actively seek more classes, enlightenment, and the perfect
wave. Rie Sato decided to join the MA TESOL program because she became interested in gaining more specialized knowledge and skills in teaching English while she was studying Multicultural / Bilingual Education at SFSU. Although she was hoping to teach English in an ESL context, she will go back to Japan for circumstantial reasons. She is hoping to teach English at a college or workplace in either her home town Sapporo (famous for beer) or Tokyo. Hae-won Song is currently student teaching at CCSF. After graduation, and hopefully a long vacation, she hopes to work in the field of material development for English courses for teaching children in Korea. Akane Tanaban went
to Japan and taught English for three years before entering the M.A. TESOL
program at SFSU. From this experience, she developed a keen interest in
investigating cultural differences. She is currently working at the ALI as a
reading/writing teacher for high-intermediate students. Leslie Teruya's love for traveling and the English language will be fulfilled when he begins teaching EFL after graduating. Léa Wang, after working as a merchandise buyer for two years, stepped into this interesting field two years ago. She has enjoyed the experience of studying in this program, working in the ESL office and teaching at CCSF. She is planning to go back to Taiwan and use what she has learned from this MATESOL program. Matt Werth taught EFL in a variety of settings in Taiwan for 5 years. He slowly realized that he enjoyed teaching, but had no idea of what he was doing. He currently teaches oral communication skills and business English at the ALI and has some idea of what he·s doing. Tasha Wientjes has enjoyed working in the Intensive Learning Program and in the ESL Program office at SFSU. After graduating, she hopes to teach at Bay Area community colleges. Eventually, however, she plans to relocate to Holland with her husband and daughter where she hopes to continue her teaching
