News from Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) - Hong Kong Chapter
A Cross-fertilization Meeting of SFPE was hosted by the Hong Kong Chapter on 23 September, 2007 at the Hongkong International Trade & Exhibition Centre immediately after the 7th Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology.
The meeting was chaired by Professor A. Sekizawa, Director of SFPE and Professor W.K. Chow, President of SFPE - Hong Kong Chapter. A total number of 48 fire engineers and scientists from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan attended.
The Taiwan Chapter was officially opened with Professor Shen-wen Chien, Founding President of the Chapter received the chapter charter from Professor Sekizawa. The Hat's Off Award was delivered to Professor Kuang-hua Hsiung, Professor Shen-wen Chien and Professor Tzu-Sheng Shen.
Presidents of Taiwan Chapter, Japan Chapter, Hong Kong Chapter and Korea Chapter (Chapters outside the United States) gave presentations on introducing their activities since last meeting in 2005 at Tokyo, Japan. It was emphasized in the talk by Professor Chow and Miss Fiona Tsui, Secretary of SFPE - Hong Kong Chapter, that the local chapter will work in complementary with the new Fire Engineering Discipline established in the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
A technical tour to several shopping malls at new towns of Hong Kong was held afterward. New smoke control designs in different atria were observed. All the expenses are funded by the financial supporter of the 7th Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology.
