Located at mile marker 36.9, on US highway 1, lies the entrance to one of the Florida
Keys most spectacular parks. Bahia Honda Key is home to the Bahia
Honda State
Park. Owned and operated under the guidance of the Department of Environmental
Protection, Bahia Honday Key offers a rare and inviting
environment.
Bahia Honda State Park occupies all of the Bahia Honda Key, located east of Big
Pine Key. Rare (at least in the Keys) white sand beaches front the
Atlantic, backed
by a lush tropical hardwood forest of gumbo limbo, satinwood, and silver palm.
Daily snorkeling trips are offered off the reef at nearby Looe Key National Marine
Sanctuary. There is even a self-guided nature trail leading to the
top of the accesible
span of the old Bahia Honda Bridge.
