| A model of one of Walter Spanglers sets for the opera The Bonesetters Daughter, which has its premiere Sept. 13 at the San Francisco Opera.... Dragon bones, actually ancient human and animal bones, play a significant role in Chinese culture. In the past they were prized for their medicinal qualities and used to treat malaria and other diseases. Now they are treasured not only by paleo-anthropologists but also by nationalists seeking to prove the biological continuity and singularity of the Chinese people. Dragon bones are also transmitters of Chinese civilization and culture since some, known as oracle bones, bear the earliest examples of Chinese writing and recorded history./ Story |
| They also have gorgeous scenic displays including video-projected fish of all sizes and the Dalian Acrobatic Troupe flying through the air. / Bloomberg |
