| At 2006 "Opera in the Park," Gockley announced that the two operas added to samples of the 2006-2007 season, Wagner's Tannh�user and Giordano's Andrea Chenier would be in our future. (As of 2008-2009 there has been of Andrea Chenier) |

| The Met presents "Tannh�user" essentially in the Paris version with the extended ballet in the opening scene depicting the bacchanal in Venus's grotto. In this production, scantily clad dancers scamper, cling, lift one another and couple, sometimes in same-sex pairings, sometimes in threesomes, all to Wagner's voluptuous music with its loosely moored harmony. Throughout the evening the conductor Mark Elder drew richly colored and lithe playing from the orchestra and some rousing singing from the hardy Met chorus./ Review |
