| San Francisco Opera Replaces Planned Mary Zimmerman Staging of Lucia Mary Zimmerman's new production of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, which opened the Metropolitan Opera's season earlier this fall, will not be traveling to San Francisco Opera this coming summer as previously planned. In a statement released this week, the company explained that presenting the Tony Award-winning director's staging would not be feasible due to technical issues: "the physical dimensions of the production and extensive rebuilding required to adapt the sets for the War Memorial Opera House." In place of the Zimmerman staging, San Francisco Opera will import a widely-seen production by Graham Vick with sets and costumes designed by Paul Brown. First presented in 1996 in Florence at the Maggio Musicale, Vick's Lucia has since been mounted in the main opera houses of Tokyo, Geneva, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome and Genoa. Source/ DVD |
