Soprano Suzanne Ramo, a former Adler Fellow, was a creditable Queen of the Night, giving the role a patina of menace and dispatching the famously difficult coloratura almost without mishap. / Review
Mary Dunleavy, an American soprano who has sung the vengeful Queen of the Night with companies from here to Berlin, introduced a quicksilver instrument, slithered around the scale with supreme ease, tossing off staccati like bits of lint, and topped her first aria, "O zittre nicht," with a secure F in alt. Moreover, she delivers the recitatives with a malign splendor that sporadically lends this production a dramatic urgency missing elsewhere./ Review

She dispatched the famous coloratura passages beautifully, but that was all; her singing elsewhere was underpowered, and she projected all the wrath of a librarian imposing a late fee./ Review

If this is a librarian imposing a late fee, then the penalty is death.
Few sopranos can sing the two stratospheric and wide-ranging arias given to the Queen of the Night, and fewer still can sing them well. Erika Miklsa is one of this select company, and got the biggest ovations of the evening. Her entrance in the first act, floating down from the ceiling, was magical, but placed her far back on the stage. She was perfectly audible but sounded far away. Fortunately, her second act aria blazed out splendidly from the front of the stage/ SFCV
