As the boisterous bird-catcher who lives only for eating, drinking and love, Kranzle deployed a resonant, lithe baritone that was full-bodied without being too meaty. His comic timing was impeccable -- he got all his laughs without hamming or overplaying a thing -- and he even showed a talent for the quick ad-lib when a stage effect went awry in Act 1. . . . Marnie Breckenridge a picture of avian romance as Mrs. Bird-catcher, Papagena./ Review

When Papageno wanted to kill himself before because of Nikki Einfeld (the really cute Papagena he didn't meet yet), Ms. Rosenberg came out, dressed as a golden tree, with a noose hanging from her, so Papageno could hang himself. In the program, there was a star next to Ms. Rosenberg's name, and on the bottom of the page, there was the explanation: "San Francisco Opera debut." Even for her first time, I thought she was a very funny tree./ Reveiw

Maltman's singing is impossibly rich, with a wealth of tonal color and plenty of easy power, and his diction helped open up expressive worlds./ Review
His reward for being generally good-hearted was a feathery Papagena, Rhoslyn Jones, who starred in a spectacular costume change/ SFCV
