Officially approved in 1967 by the International Association of LION Clubs, over 4,000 LEO Clubs are currently active around the world. LEO Clubs are non-profit. Each LEO Club is sponsored by an individual LION Club in their community who helps develop young men and women, between the ages of 12-28, into responsible and active young adults providing unique services to the local community.

The San Francisco LEO Club was founded in June 1990. Currently the club works year-round with a number of local community organizations including On-Lok Senior Health Services, CA Dragonboat Association, Asian Women's Resource Center, Self-Help For the Elderly, Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and Suspended Animations. The San Francisco Chinatown LEO Club strives to uphold dedicated community service in the local San Francisco area, We focus on serving the youth and senior citizens in the community.
