Coach John Kloppenberg enjoyed his most successful season as the Mariners skipper in 1997-98, his final season at the helm (Coach Klopp moved into the "front office" after the 1997-98, taking on the job as SFHS Athletic Director). The Mariners posted 10 victories (tied for 4th most in school history and the first time in over 20 years that the Mariners hit double figures in the win column!). The Mariners also posted a modest 3 game winning streak at one point in the season. After 2 straight seasons in which 3 wins were all the Mariners could muster, a 3 game winning streak was a great feeling for Coach Klopp and his boys.
The Mariner squad consisted of Joseph Bialas, Gregory Blunt, David Scheel, Tony Tarnowski, Rafael Neuwald, Robert Miller, Just Seibel, Jason Buretta, Andrew Luby, Joseph, Bialkowski, Ryan Dewitt, and Richard Pankowski. Brian Karas handled managerial duties for Coach Klopp
