The San Francisco Hawaiian Golf Club
History
Originally formed as a bowling club in the 1960s by George Cohen and Bob Nomura, the club was based in San Francisco where members tore up the lanes at the corner of Eddy and Jones. By the 1970s, the choice of sport had become golf and members were tearing up greens and fairways instead. On some occasions, members would tackle the links and lanes on the same day. Long time member Marsha Horita recalls that the club would sometimes play golf and then go straight to the bowling alley for more friendly competition. Many original members like Atlas Arakawa, Cal Sagara, Paul Kodama and Hal Nekota are still playing in the club, competing with, and regularly besting, some of the longer hitting less experienced members.
Members (click here for member list)
Current club membership consists of a diverse group of folks, most originally from California and Hawaii. Members can be seen regularly snacking on
arare, nabisco cheese snacks, thoughtfully pre-frozen gatorade for those hot summer days, and fresh spam musubi between perfect drives and chunked chips.
2006-2007 President Bob Nakasora says, "The club has always been open to anyone who has the aloha spirit and loves to play golf." Currently, the club has A and B flights providing all with an opportunity to win. The main prize for members, however, is getting outside in the fresh air and enjoying "a good walk spoiled" with fellow club members.
2007 Season
There are 17 tournaments.  Officers serving for the 2006-2007 seasons are: Bob Nakasora (President), Dennis Yamamoto (Pairings), Eugene Yano (Handicap & Website), Edie Buna (Treasurer), Rick Matsuno (Rules). The club is sanctioned by the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA).

FAQs:

If I join, do I have to play all the tournaments?
No, but the more you play, the more fun you'll have.  Better to play as much as you can now before you get too
makule.  Also, In order to qualify for year end prizes and awards, you must have at least 8 tournaments (not including the final tournament at Sunnyvale).

You guys putt out and stuff?
Yes.  And you gotta count every stroke.  No kicking the ball out to a better lie (you know who you are).
