Being a SFEF First Officer

This is a guide for any SFEF First Officer (XO). It has been designed to help you know what your job is, how to be a good First Officer, to help you know what you can and cannot do, what you should and should not do and what it is to be a First Officer. I suggest you save this somewhere or print it because it should come in handy later on down the road or too look back on. Please don't just disregard this. You will need this because it has a XO's job description included as well. By being a XO in SFEF you automatically agree to follow these rules.

~Admiral Lemax

What is the job of a SFEF First Officer?
1. To do everything in their power to show up to their sim or post on a regular basis and to make sure that their crew (and Captain) is as well.
2. To do what the Captain asks. For example. The Captain might ask the First Officer to keep track of attendance for them and keep track of the points for the ship. The Captain may ask the First Officer to post promotions on the message board.
3. To follow the rules of the group and to make sure that all of their crew members do as well and to help the Captain out with discipline durring the sim.
4. To take over the sim if the Captain doesn't show up. You should log the sim and send it to the Captain as well. If less then 3 crew members show up then you are allowed to cancel the sim. Be sure to send a record to the Captain or mark down who showed up.
5. The First Officer is allowed to issue orders durring the sim just like the Captain. They shouldn't issue orders against the CO's orders though.
6.First Officers will also most likely lead most away teams.
6a. The XO will martial the AT and continue the plot line of the CO
6b. Keep the AT informed of things that the CO wants them to
specifically find and coordinate retrieval during the mission
7. Maintain IM contact with the CO
8. Maintain IM contact with new simmers or simmers with questions.
9. Provide crew members with direction and things to do not directly affect with that portion of the sim involved.
Example:  If the AT is on the planet and that is the main center of action, give the members of the ship  something to do.
Always corridinate these actions with the CO.
10. Monitor for people leaving the ship and entering the ship
11. Update the CO and coordinate both briefings and late posts
12. Address out of line behavior in IM to that individual before it gets out of hand. Whle the CO is running the Sim.
13. To always log the Sim as a back up incase the CO is Booted.
14. You will be expected to take the XO test when your requirments for this position have been met.

Explanation of the Point System.
The Point System is a system devised to keep everything fair in SFEF. It is to ensure that all simmers get promoted equally and have to work for their promotions. It keeps things fair and just. All Captains (or First Officers, depending on what the CO says) are required to use this unless given special permission that they do not have to. Remember that all Captains have to ask before promoting members above the rank of Lieutenant Commander. First Officers may keep a second record if they wish but they aren't allowed to promote anyone.

1. In the Point System, when a member is promoted their points do not start over again. They add up on to the members Total.
2. One Chat sim is equal to One Point. One Recruit is equal to one Point (The Recruiting Council or someone else will inform you if one of your crew members has recruited someone). One E-mail or Message Board Post is equal to 1/2 of a point.
3. Members often guest sim or sim on ships where they are not a part of the regular crew, if they do you should have them inform their regular CO that they guest simmed on your ship in order for them to recieve credit for the sim. You can also report it to their Captain. Also at thie time the COS is in charge of points and promotion update and all guest Sims go on the Weekly Sim reports send it.

Below is the current point system.

Cadet to Ensign - 10 points
Ensign to Lieutenant Junior Grade - 15 points
Lieutenant Junior Grade to Lieutenant - 35 points
Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander - 50 points
Lieutenant Commander to Commander - 100 points
Commander to Captain - about 300 points
