Being a SFEF Captain...
This is a guide for any SFEF Captain. It has been designed to help you know what your job is, how to be a good Commanding Officer,
to help you know what you can and cannot do, what you should and should not do and what it is to be a Commanding Officer. I suggest you save this somewhere or print it because it should come in handy later on down the road or too look back on. I have been Commanding Sims for a little over 4 years now and this document is some of the things I have learned along the way and some of the things I think you should know. Please don't just disregard this. You will need this because it has a CO's job description included as well. By being a CO in SFEF you automatically agree to follow these rules.

~Admiral Lemax

What makes a good captain? What do Admirals look for in a potential commanding officer? First the Captain of a ship should have some traits. Some of these traits include being understanding, knowing when to be serious and when it is okay not to be, a Captain should know how to relate with all different types of people and to know how to handle difficult situations. A Captain should care about their crew and what is going on with them, they should be willing to work and sacrifice in order to let their crew have the best time possible. A Captain should have good communication skills and should have a good overall attitude. A Captain should also have good command skills and should know how to issue orders. And a Captain should also know how to follow orders and know how to put themselves in the place of the people they are commanding and the people that are commanding them.

What is the job of a SFEF Captain?
1. To do everything in their power to show up to their sim or post on a regular basis and to make sure that their crew is as well.
2. To keep an up to date roster of who is on the ship, what rank they are, what post they have and their screenname or e-mail. That
report should be sent in biweekly to the Commanding Officer and Chief of Staff(COS).

3. To keep track of how many points each of their crew members have and to promote them accordingly and then report the promotion on a message board or send a report to their superior. Send in your reports after each Sim to insure this. At this time the COS is in charge of all points and promotion updates.
4. To follow the rules of the group and to make sure that all of their crew members do as well.
5. To log or have someone else log all sims incase they are needed in the future for any reason or reports.
6. To reply to new members and applications of people wanting to join the ship, informing them of their post, rank and when and where the ships sims.

Problems that may arise while in Command:
1. Attendance Problems: This can be solved many ways, the normal procedure would be to send a reminder to sim or post a day in advance to remind the crew when the sim is or that they should be posting. Another very effective way is to contact the crew members who are not attending personally and ask them whats going on, if you can help with anything and find out if they plan on coming to any more sims. This can be done through IM's or E-mail.
2. Disruptive Crewmember: Any disruptive crewmember that continues to be disruptive after any type of warnings should be reported to the Chief of Staff or Council and a report should be sent with any conversations included. A Captain shouldn't yell at a member the first time they make a mistake but just simply tell them what they did wrong and how to correct it or what to do in the future.

Explanation of How to use the Point System:
The Point System is a system devised to keep everything fair in SFEF. It is to ensure that all simmers get promoted equally and have to work for their promotions. It keeps things fair and just. All Captains are required to use this unless given special permission that they do not have to. Remember that all Captains have to ask before promoting members above the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

1. In the Point System, when a member is promoted their points do not start over again. They add up on to the members Total.
2. One Chat sim is equal to One Point. One Recruit is equal to one Point (The Recruiting Council or someone else will inform you if one of your crew members has recruited someone). One E-mail or Message Board Post is equal to 1/2 of a point.
3. Members often guest sim or sim on ships where they are not a part of the regular crew, if they do you should have them inform their regular CO that they guest simmed on your ship in order for them to recieve credit for the sim. You can also report it to their Captain.
At this time Guest Simming and thier points also goes on the Weekly Simming Report sent to the COS and AOL Commander..

Below is the current point system.

Cadet to Ensign - 10 points
Ensign to Lieutenant Junior Grade - 15 points
Lieutenant Junior Grade to Lieutenant - 35 points
Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander - 50 points
Lieutenant Commander to Commander - 100 points
Commander to Captain - about 300 points
