Starfleet Engineering has a 'points' style promotional system. It takes a certian amount of points to adance from each rank. Please keep in mind that all point promotions are minimums, and serve only to help give the skipper a guidline. They do not gaurentee promotion. After each promotion, your points are maintained and put towards your next promotion. Here is a rough rundown on this system.

A simmer is allowed 1-5 points for each post. The better the post, the more points you will receive. The average quality post will receive 2 points. No limit is given on the number of points you may receive or post you may do except they must be quality post. This rewards the more active simmers. A quality post meaning 3-5 paragraphs; minimum. Superior posts will also be rewarded with extra points. Ideas to improve your posts might be to use more detail, include another character or simply write something extraordinarly good. Another way a simmer may make additional points is through submitting, having approved and executed a storyline. The amount of points given for a storyline should not exceed 4. In this case a story line has some important elements that should be present for additional points to be awarded. First off the story should encompass most or preferably all of the crew. Be sure there are things for everyone to do, otherwise it just isn't any good. Secondly, it should take time, this too is a subjective element. A third way for you to rack up the points is by making a bio. You can make from 1 to 5 points on a bio depending on how complete it is. Character pictures are a recommended to attain a five. The amount of points a simmer has will only be known by the game master. This way he may choose to have someone pass up a promotion if they are not ready or to prevent one month everyone being ensigns and the next everyone is a lieutenant commander.

Joint Posts: If you write a joint post, the points are shared between the simmers. Therefore if the post receives a 3, both simmers get 3 extra points added to their total. Absences: If you do not post once in a two week period, you will lose points unless you have contacted the game master and informed him of your leave of absence (LOA). If your accumulated points drop below the number of points required for your rank, you will be demoted to the previous rank. Authorized LOAs will not result in a deduction of points. If you do not sim for 4 consecutive weeks without telling the game master, you will be taken off the sim. |
