Explorers Assist at Structure Fire
On early Sunday morning of February 2, 2003 the Solvay Fire Department was dispatched for a signal99.  Upon arriving on scene around 1:30am it was clear that this would be a long night.  The explorers  asssited Solvay and the other half dozen departments on scene by running hoselines, lights, power cords, ect. One hose length had to be dragged around 1000 feet to the nearest hydrant that wasnt in use or frozen.  Great job for the help guys. 4 buildings had to be torn down as a result of the fire.  The explorers were at the call untill well after 7am that morning.

The Solvay Fire Department established an Explorer post in October of 2000. The members must be in the age range of 14-18, be in at least 9th grade, and must reside in the Solvay fire district.

Explorers are assigned their own bunker gear and are trained by the fire fighters to change air tanks, set up ladders, hit hydrants, perform CPR, and many other qualifications that would be needed at a fire/rescue scene.
