Freighers are the lifeblood of the entire Federation. Without the precious goods they carry, an intergalactic economy is unsubstainable. They usually frequent well-established trade-routes deep within Federation territory, but when they venture towards the outskirts or leave Federation space, they are usually accompanied by escorts, frigates, or cruisers.
