(MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT, SAN DIEGO, CA 09/18/98) --Private Walter D. Dow completed boot camp.

The date and time is wrong on this picture. This was taken in late September 1998 while he was on leave, just after basic training at Camp Pendleton, CA.

When Walter was small there was a commercial on TV it went something like this - Send us a boy and we will send you back a man, join the Marines. He also has a Grandfather, Uncle and a Great Uncle that was in the Marines. He always said he was going to join and his Senior year in high school he signed up. A week and half after graduation he was off to basic training.

In 1991 Walter's Grandpa Harbison passed away from cancer, the summer before his Grandpa passed away Walter had gotten close to him. Walter would go up and help his Grandpa do yard work, and while they were working Grandpa and Walter would talk.

When Walter was home for a visit in August of 1999 he wanted to put flowers out on his Grandpa Harbisons grave.
