| We were treated to Helgi Tomassons use of Francesco Geminiani Concerto Grosso. Arguably his best choreography using five male dancers with Pascal Molat as center piece, it is thrilling to see the company's male dancers so well displayed. Allan Ulrich remarked during intermission how rare it is to see a dancer communicate such pleasure in dancing, a phenomenon Ulrich beleives Molat shares with Jacques dAmboise and the late Melissa Hayden darned good company I add. Watching Jonathan Mangosing and Joseph Phillips, I found additional confirmation if not so buoyantly conveyed. Mangosings phrasing and sustained jetes are quite individual and musical. With Garrett Anderson and Garen Scribner, the Concerto Grosso quintet danced a joyous affirmation to classical dance./ Review |
| Tomasson is a highly musical choreographer. Here he not only returned to the classics, but made a pas de cinq to celebrate the company's young men and their virtuosity. Each dancer created a legato and an allegro passage, dancing brilliantly.Since this ballet will doubtless be repeated, I will further comment then. The audience reaction gave a wonderfully visceral series of bravos./ Review Tomasson's "Concerto Grosso," to Geminani's concerto on a theme of Corelli, has become a vehicle for testing the progress of talented corps men; Joseph Phillips is coming along nicely, but Jonathan Mangosing still has yet to integrate his gifts -- cat's-paws feet, a high extension -- into one well-harmonized way of moving. Principal Pascal Molat looked less exuberant than usual, but still awed dependably in high-sailing jumps./ Review |

Pascal Molat, Hansuke Yamamoto, Garrett Anderson, Rory Hohenstein, and Jaime Garcia Castilla performed Helgi Tomasson's Concerto Grosso, which was described as a "striking revelation" by Sid Smith, dance critic for the Chicago Tribune. Hedy Weiss, dance critic for the Chicago Sun Times, described the ballet as "a rich, sophisticated neo-classical showcase" and hailed the performance as "some of the finest dancing on the program."/ Review |
| MORE/ San Francisco Ballet- performed Concerto Grosso by five fantastic men. Red: Pascal Molat, Green: Garrett Anderson, Light Blue: Jaime Garcia Castilla, Purple: Rory Hohenstein, & Blue: Hanusuke Yamamoto. At one point all the men were in perfect sync. The piece just showed off the men's beautiful line, athleticism and technique. Nice!/ Review |
