The 5 Series begins with Program 1, which is dedicated to the influence of  Lew Christensen, who was SFB Director 1951 to his death in 1984.
� First we are doing his 
The Filling Station - the first all American ballet with the hero, a filling station attendant instead of the traditional prince.
� Then a Tomasson �7 for Eight
� Lew Christensen brought a lot of Balanchine into SFB, so  Balanchine�s
Diamonds is perfect to start out our 75th Diamond Jubilee Season.

Program 2 is second in the 5 series. It is three views of Romance leading up to Valentines Day.
Divertimento 15 is Balanchine�s courtly view of Romance set to Mozart.
Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes is Mark Morris� more free and joyous view of Romance
The Firebird is a Russian Fairytale for our times with the hero torn between 2 kinds of love, back by popular demand from last season and includes the flashing egg.

Program 3-begins the 3 Series and is the only Full Length Ballet of the Season
Giselle � Last performed � 2005
� Subtle ballet, which is difficult to get just right
� Story of love beyond death
� Willies in white form breathtaking patterns
� Ballet will let the new soloist shine and bring back the stars of past
� This will sell out fast

Program 4 � The All Jerome Robbins Tribute Night is the third part of the 5 Series
Fancy Free, back from its debut in 2007, is Finger snapping fun ballet about three sailors on leave in NY City. It is set to Bernstein�s Score and inspired the musical �On the Town�
� Next,
In the Night is set to Chopin under a starry sky with 3 couples portraying love.
� The finger snapping begins again with
West Side Story Suite- New to SFB, the dancers get a chance to sing. The ballet inspired by the musical, is based on Romeo and Juliet.

Program 5 is the second part of the 3 series. It is packed with 4 ballets and is all about the pdd.
� Christopher Wheeldon�s
Carousel (a dance) was inspired by the musical, Carousel, the musical, and has a romantic, tender pdd danced to �If I Loved You�
Pas de deux from After the Rain, another Wheeldon. It has incredible cantilever lifts, one of which is on the cover of the brochure.
� WP - Rachmaninov's "
Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini".
Eden/ Eden is the �Brave New World� ballet about cloning. We get to watch the dancers discover their own bodies and the pdd at the same time. Everyone who missed it last season wished they had been there.

Program 6 � continues the 5 series. Three great ballet companies come help us celebrate, each with a gift that only they can bring.
� National Ballet of Canada is bringing snow�
A Delicate Battle, danced under a canopy of silver, is the first creation of Matjash Mrozewski�s, who debuted last season with �Concordia.�
� New York City Ballet  is bringing Ballenchine,
Duo Concertant is just a pure and simple pdd danced to a piano and violin onstage to Stravinsky. NY City rarely comes out to the west coast.
� Les Ballets de Monte Carlo (debut at SFB) is brining designs by Karl Lanerfeld � gold costumes for the ballet
Altro Canto, danced under a ceiling of candelight.
(In doing the 6th program, they are giving SFB a chance to get the grand finale ready)

The 75th ends with the New Works Festival, which has 10 World Premiers divided into A, B and C programs.

The Three Series has:
Program A on Thursday, 5/1/08.
Program B on Tuesday, 4/29/08 (-$), Friday, 5/2/08 and Saturday Evening, 5/3/08.
Program C on Wednesday, 4/30/08 and Saturday Matinee, 5/3/08.

The Five Series has:
Program A on Tuesday, 4/22/08 (+$), Friday, 4/25/08 and Sunday, 4/27/08.
Program B on Wednesday, 4/23/08 and Saturday, 5/3/08.
Program C on Tuesday, 5/6/08, Thursday, 4/24/08 and Saturday Evening, 4/26/08.

CHOREOGRAPHERS
In House-Past SFB Dancers
1. Julia Adam �Choreographer of last season�s Night with a Martha Graham influence.
2. Val Caniparoli � SFB past � Slow and Death of a Moth were favorites. He has also done a modern Cinderella with a red convertible.
3. Yuri Possokhov is the SFB Resident Choreographer and contributes to each season. His Firebird is back in the regular rep this season.
Bay Area
4. Margaret Jenkins � After 30 years in New York, she returned to her native San Francisco to open her own dance company. This last season the performed Danger Orange at Justin Herman Plaza. Among her influences is Martha Graham.
Old Favorites
5. Mark Morris is already making waves with its commissioned score. He is on of most intuitive and imaginative dancers and choreographers in the world.
6. Paul Taylor takes natural movement and transforms it into dance. His dances achieve a unique look that is difficult to duplicate.
7. Stanton Welch�s vocabulary/sequencing range from Maninyas and Divergence. Recently SFB did his Falling to Mozart.
8. Christopher Wheeldon is by now the anointed heir to Balanchine. In November, 2006, in what was widely regarded as an audacious move, Wheeldon resigned as Resident Choreographer of the New York City Ballet in order to form his own dance company, Morphoses, where Gonzalo Garcia will be doing a couple things.
New in the Mix
9. James Kudelka has a romantic, whimsical style and has commissioned a score from a composer, Sharman who does very delicate pieces for string instruments.
10. Jorma Elo � new to SFB, his works, Helgi first saw him through video and recommendations.
