Well, I had my surgery (Lap RNY) on July 28, 2004. I never want to have another surgery again in my life. I don't make a very good patient :-) I hate having tubes and other contraptions attached to me; they inhibit my moving around, which I don't like. I took 7 showers while in the hospital b/c the gas bubble in my stomach made me so UNCOMFORTABLE. I didn't walk all that much while in the hospital b/c I hated having to drag that IV thing around. I was barefoot and kept stubbing my toes on it. The stuff they made my drink the next day was DISGUSTING; I thought I was going to vomit!
My brother and his fiance (Brian & Jamie) came to visit me in the hospital, and they sent me a very beautiful bouquet of flowers. Also, my good friend Angela came to visit me in the hospital, and she brought me a pretty butterfly balloon and a 6-pack of Lemon Propel :-) My oldest bother and sister-in-law (Buddy and Tricia) sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers entitled "Let's Make Lemonade." My sister Roni waited with my mom during the actual surgery, but I didn't see much of her b/c I was so out of it. She had to go somewhere later in the day. While she was at the hospital, though, she did some Raiki (energy healing) on me trying to alleviate some for the discomfort and pain. Roni is an acupuncturist. My mom (Maggie) stayed in the hospital with me the whole time. Once we returned home, my best friend Joy cam to stay with me for 2 days just to help out with the first 36 hours at home. She was great for moral support and getting me outside to walk when I didn't really feel like it!
The first thing I did when I got home was collapse into my bed. I missed it so much; hospital beds are too small to spread out and stretch. Did I tell you that I don't make a very good patient :-) |
