I thought you might be interested in seeing these photos of the lovely 407FD recently sold in England by Mr. Matt Clark. The ship is a 1991 D model and originally had an all white paint scheme, but Mr. Clark, a ship's captain and a model maker, personally performed this beautiful WWII Spitfire paintjob. Recent flights over his home area caused an elderly lady to call the local airbase and ask where "the Spitfire that just flew low overhead" was based. When told that there were no Spitfires based in the area, she retorted, "Young man, I know a Spitfire when I see one"! Matt feels that it was the throaty roar of the IO-540 that caused her confusion, but the paintjob, reminiscent of Bill Knight's, was surely a factor.

I have some other pictures, but the ones I sent are the best. He sold it to another Brit who apparently is going to fly it back and forth to France. He bought it in '93, and it was American registered, so it was "owned" by a Delaware corporation. Were you going to fly it back to the US yourself, or have someone else fly it, or disasemble and ship it? I'm curious, because there are ones for sale overseas from time to time. I had a deal with the guy over the phone, and he sold it to someone else who was there with the cash. I had already bought my plane ticket to London!
