When I am Weak

When I am weak,
I am forced to see
the real me.

When I am weak,
there is no strength within
to confide in.

When I am weak,
I must look up to heaven
from whence I am strengthened.

When I am weak,
the Father looks down
to erase my tears and my frown.

When I am weak,
I am better able to see
what Christ has done for me.

When I am weak,
God's love is shown,
and then I am strong.

                   Eventually

By the fire...
With you in my arms...
Curled up on the couch...
And feeling quite charmed...

This is how I would like us to be...

Sitting in recliners...
Reading our favorite books...
Sipping hot apple cider...
While stealing occasional looks...

This is how I would like us to be...

Hiking in the mountains...
Sleeping out in tents...
Beholding God's beauty...
Treasuring every moment spent...

This is how I would like us to be...

Old, gray, and withered...
Retired with our own land...
Thriving on the love we willed each other...
Our life together is still grand...

This is how I would like us to be...eventually.

This poem was written after I had a very nice chat with my pastor.  I got a lot of things off of my chest, and when I was done I was reading through my Bible and I came across 2 Corinthians 12:10, "For when I am weak, then I am strong."  I was then moved to write this poem.  God be praised!
This poem was written quite a while ago.  Most recently, however, I have come to appreciate it more.  An elderly friend of mine told me that he was looking forward to his second marriage (he lost his first wife to cancer about a year ago) because he has been told that the second marriage is more about companionship.  I have decided that I want my first marriage to be about companionship, with Christ as its center.  The above poem emphasizes my desire for the Lord to eventually bless me with a companion for life.
