Chad's Chapel Page
This page is dedicated to the following:
- my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, without whom I would be nothing, but through whom I have
eternal life;
- my Christian family at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in West Columbia, SC, without whom I may
never been able to attend ILC for as long as I have (or will);
- the faculty of ILC for allowing me to present these chapel addresses at ILC.
*Note: The chapels listed on this page are ones that I had the privelege of sharing with the students at Immanuel Lutheran College.  Some of them are dated the day that I gave the chapel, but unfortunately not all of them were.  All hymns are taken from The Lutheran Hymnal.
Use Your Lips for Blessing not Cursing
9/22/2002
Opening Prayer:  "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14
Text:  "If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless."  James 1:26

Body:
"The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity.  The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.  For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind.  But no man can tame the tongue.  It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.  With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.  Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing.  My brethren, these things ought not to be so." James 3:6-10

"Do not speak evil of one another, brethren." James 4:11

"But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth." Colossians 3:8

"You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain." Exodus 20:7

"Fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks." Ephesians 5:3-4

"But God demonstrates His own love to us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:17

"Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one." Colossians 4:6

"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." Mark 16:16

"For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." Acts 4:20

"For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord." 2 Corinthians 4:5

"Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us."            2 Corinthians 5:20

"O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise." Psalm 51:15

Closing Prayer: "Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips." Psalm 141:3
Closing Hymn
:  "Take My Life and Let it Be" TLH 400 vs. 1,3,5
