If Leaves Were Money
If leaves were money, then perhaps there would be no more poverty.
In summer, the forest would be full of dollars.
In fall, great fortunes to behold, for every tree would be full of gold.
In winter, a short depression there would be until spring, when the money rolls in.
With such great wealth, one would need great responsibility.
If leaves were money, then I would buy a tree.

Contrary to popular belief, this poem was not written to be in the shape of a cross, although that would work just as well. It was written to be in the shape of an arrow. The arrow helps the reader by showing the direction which the poem is to be read. It also shows from where The Light comes: heaven. Finally, heart was purposefully put at the tip of the arrow because it shows where my heart is: heaven. The Light is Christ, or more specifically His rule in our hearts. The progression from a speck to a ray of bright light is Christ setting up His rule in an unbeliever's heart as he hears the Word and the Holy Spirit creates faith in his heart. |

This poem is one of my most recent. In fact, it was written just this month. The thought occurred to me as I was walking around ILC's beautiful campus. This campus is especially beautiful during the fall time when all the leaves change color. I just thought it would be a neat, witty little poem, so I wrote it down and published it on this site. |
