            Liberation

There He hangs,
In anguish on the cross,
Blood dripping from His brow,
Life falling with every drop.

The crowd cries out to scorn Him.
The soldiers laugh and mock.
And yet His love to them He shows,
Erasing every blot.

"It is finished."
The work is done.
The blood is shed.
The war is won.

This death has conquered Satan.
No way has Jesus lost.
He has taken all our sins...
Has taken all our sins
And nailed them to the cross.

And with this life He's given,
Now all the world is free.
They take His breathless body
Down from the curs'ed tree.

Three days pass; a temple resurrected.
Behold the dead now lives!
A sign to ev'ry being
To confirm the gift He gives.

And when He comes in glory
On that great day to be.
He'll give His own new bodies
And then eternity.

My Sister Do Not Weep

My sister do not weep,
For your loved one
Is but asleep.

For since she believed
In Christ who died but lives,
Then to God she has been received.

My sister do not weep,
For your loved one
Restfully sleeps.

She confessed the Christ.
She lived her faith,
And will enjoy paradise
When she awakes.

My sister do not weep,
But live your life to Christ,
Knowing soon with all your loved ones,
You too shall sleep,
Receiving your soul's salvation,
Awaking to an eternal, blissful habitation.

This poem was written for a dear friend of mine whose mother has recently fallen asleep in Christ.
This poem was written around Lenten season.  It tells of the wonderful love Christ has for all people and how He reveals that love: by dying on the cross to pay the price for all sins of all people of all time.  Recently, I have been informed that this poem may lead one to believe falsely about salvation.  In the fifth verse I have the line that says, "now all the world is free" and the last verse reads "He'll give us all new bodies and then eternity."  This may lead one to believe that because Christ died everyone on this earth is going to heaven.  That is far from the truth.  Christ's death did pay the price for the sins of the whole world, but is only through Spirit-worked faith in Christ that we enjoy the eternal benefits of heaven.  I thank my Uncle for pointing this out to me.  By the "us" in the last line, I meant all true believers in Christ, but that did not come across very clear in the poem.  You can expect to see an improved, revised version of this poem sometime in the future to include this very important belief.
