The Myth of What Wicca Is

People for a long time have thought that Wicca was an evil religion.
One that worships "Satan" and casts evil spells
on others.

Well, I am here to try to undo that myth.

First and Foremost,
in all my years of being Wiccan,
I have never worshipped Satan.
I have never cast any evil spells,
put curses on anyone (although I have cursed at a few people),
nor have I sacrificed little animals on any altar.

Second,
Wiccans are not automatically doomed to hell..
we don't believe in hell,
so how can we be doomed to eternity there?
However, if given a choice between listening to Harp music
behind a giant wall and gate or being damned...
I would choose where all the rock and heavy metal bands are. :-)

And lastly,
but certainly, not least
as I have been taught, there is good and evil in all things..
it is how you apply yourself toward the goals you desire,
if you wish harm on others, that is evil..
if you wish to not harm others, that is good.

They only follow their path.
All we ask is to be allowed to follow ours.
May the Goddess and God watch over us Always...

May The Goddess and God Watch Over and Bless You

The Wiccan Rede

Bide ye the Wiccan laws ye must,
in perfect love, in perfect trust.
Ye must live and let live, fairly take and fairly give.
Cast the circle thrice about, to keep unwelcome spirits out.

To bind the spell well every time,
let the spell be spoken in rhyme.
Soft of eye and light of touch,
speak ye little and listen much.

Deosil go by waxing moon,
chanting out the Wiccan Rune.
Widdershins go by waning moon,
chanting out the baneful tune.

When the Lady's moon is new,
kiss the hand to her times two.
When the moon rides at her peak,
then the heart's desire seek.

Heed the North wind's mighty gale:
lock the door and trim the sail.
When the wind comes from the South,
love will kiss thee on the mouth.

When the Moor wind blows from the West,
departed spirits have no rest.
When the wind blows from the East,
expect the new and set the feast.

Nine woods in the cauldron go,
burn them quick and burn them slow.
Elder be the Lady's tree,
cut it not or cursed youll be.

When the wheel begins to turn,
let the Beltane fires burn.
When the wheel has turned to Yule,
light the log and the Horned One rules.

Heed ye flower, bush and tree, by the Lady, Blessed Be.
Where the rippling waters go, cast a stone,
the truth to know.

When ye have and hold a need,
hearken not to others' greed.
With a fool no seasons spend,
or be counted as his friend.

Merry meet and merry part,
bright the cheeks and warm the heart.
Mind the Threefold Law ye should,
three times bad and three times good.

When misfortune is now,
where the blue star on thy brow.
True in love ye must ever be,
lest thy love be false to thee.

These words the Wiccan Rede fulfill:
An ye harm none, do what ye will.

Bide the Wiccan Rede ye must,
In perfect love & perfect trust.
Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill,
An it harm none, do as ye will.

Ever mind the rule of three,
What you send out comes back to thee.
Follow this with mind & heart,
And merry meet & merry part!

Creation

Before Time Was

from Wicca, A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner By Scott Cunningham.

Before time was, there was The One. The One was all, and all was
The One. The vast expanse known as the universe was The One,
all-wise, all-pervading, all-powerful, eternally changing.

And space moved. The One molded energy into twin forms,
equal but opposite, fashioning The Goddess and
The God from The One and of The One.

The Goddess and God stretched and gave thanks to The One,
but Darkness surrounded them. They were alone,
solitary save for The One and each other.

So, The Goddess and God formed energy into gasses and
the gasses into suns and planets and moons.
They sprinkled the Universe with whirling globes,
giving life to all from their hands.

Light arose and the sky was illuminated by a billion suns.
The Goddess and The God satisfied by their work,
rejoiced and loved, and were one.

From their union sprang the seeds of all life...
including the human race, so that we may achieve
carnation upon the Earth.

The Goddess chose the moon as her symbol,
and The God chose the Sun...
To ever remind us of them.

All are born, live, and die beneath the sun and the moon.
All things come to pass there under. And all occurs with the
blessing of The One. As has been before time was.

The Goddess and The God

The Goddess

She is the Mother of all.
The giver of life, the giver of fertility.
She is loving and kind as a mother should be.
But she has her darker side.
She is all aspects of nature.. from birth to death..
from spring to winter. As she gives life, so she takes.
But the taking is not evil, it is only the rest between the incarnations.
She is The Maiden, The Mother, and The Crone.
She is signified by the moon.
We see her in the changing seasons.

The Maiden:

Signifies youth, the beginning of life and magick.
She is youthful and energetic in this form.
Playful, fresh, and new. She gives renewed joy to all.
She gives excitement, happiness, a fresh start.
This is the Spring, when all life renews itself.

The Mother:

Signifies caring, compassion, fertility.
She is mother to all. Nuturing, giving, and understanding.
This is the summer when all things are plentiful.

The Crone:

Signifies maturity and wisdom.
She is the grandparent, the counselor, the end.
She is caring yet merciless.
She is the frost covered fields, the end of life.
This is the Winter, when all things die, to be reborn in the spring.

The God

The God is signified by the Sun.
The rising and the setting of the sun.
The God is the tender of wild animals.
His domains include the untouched forests,
burning deserts, and the majestic mountains.
He is life, wild and pure.

Together the Goddess and the God celebrate all life. As should we.

The Sabbats and Esbats

Our Special Days

Wiccans have eight Sabbats which are their holidays. They are
the quarters and cross quarters of the solar year. Wiccans also
have Esbats which are their working (or magick doing)
celebrations. Both are used for rituals to honor the
Goddess and the God. Also, for spell casting.

The Eight Sabbats:

Together, all tell the story of the Goddess and the God.
They tell us the story of their relationship
and the changes the Earth goes thru during these times.
There are many stories which vary, but here is the basics of it all.

Yule
December 21

During Yule, the story tells us the Goddess gives birth to the God.
This is one of the traditions the Christians "borrowed" from our beliefs
around 273 C.E. (common era).
This is The Winter Solstice.
Yule is the time when the daylight is shortest and the night is long.
It reminds us that all things will once again, and soon, be reborn unto us.

Imbolc
February 2

This marks the time when the Goddess is recovering from the birth of the God.
The lengthening of the days and sun awaken Her.
The God is a young, energetic boy.
His power grows with the lengthening of the days.
It is a time of fertility. The earliest signs of spring.
It reminds us that soon, the sun shall return full in its glory and all will
be renewed.

Ostara
March 21

This is the true beginning of Spring.
It is a time when the Goddess brings forth life.
Nature returns from winter to spring.
It is a time of renewed energy,
all things seem fresh, young and new. The daylight and night are equal.
One does not overpower the other.
This is a time for beginnings.
The Goddess fully awakens and the God stretches toward maturity.

Beltane
April 30

This marks the time of the God reaching manhood.
The Goddess and God desire one another.
They fall in love and unite.
She becomes pregnant of He.
This is a time which has been long marked with ritual.
Of May Poles and flowers. A time of renewed vitaliy, passion, and hope.

Midsummer
June 21

This is the time when the Earth is abounded by the
fertility of the Goddess and the God.
The powers of nature are at their highest.
This is the time of the Sun, the longest day.

Lughnasadh
August 1

This is the time when the God starts to lose his strength.
The Goddess is both sorrowful and joyful.
She knows the God is dying, yet lives in her as her child.
This is the time of the first harvest.
Each day grows shorter, each night longer.
We are reminded that nothing is constant.

Mabon
September 21

The God is old. Dying faster each day.
The Goddess nods as the days shorten.
She knows He grows within her.
This is the Autumn Equinox. The completion of the harvest.
Again, Day and Night are equal. Nature readies for winter.

Samhain
October 31

The God dies, a temporary death as He prepares for birth.
Also known as All Hallows Eve, this is a time when we look back,
reflecting on the lives we had in the past year.
It is the time when the veil between worlds, living and dead
is the thinnest. We should remember all our loved ones and ancestors who have
gone before us.

These are the times in which to honor the Goddess. Unlike Sabbats
which are Solar oriented, these are Lunar oriented. These are

Namaste

Namaste is a saying that I heard not too long
ago on the web. I had no idea what it meant..
then I asked. A kindly soul told me that
namaste was simply this:

"I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells.
When I am in that place in me,
and you are in that place in you..
we are one."

I thought about it for a while..
and it just makes sense to me.
So I added it here.
