Look around as you walk the historic Iditarod trail. This spectacular Fjord was once covered with ice one mile thick. The remnants of these spectacular glaciers can be seen all around you.

The first section of the bike path ends at 4th Avenue. Here you take Van Buren Street to the Seward Highway and follow the boardwalk. At the north end of the board walk is the Benny Benson Memorial. This was dedicated in 1976 to commemorate the 13 year old Alaskan Native Benny Benson who designed the Alaska flag in 1927 when he lived in the Jessie Lee Home for orphans.

Follow the bike path through Clearview which cuts between Seward Elementary and High Schools. The area was part of Ft. Raymond, the main military post established in Seward during World War II. The trail curves right on a paved segment and comes out near the Seward Elementary School. It then follows Sea Lion Drive to the Seward Highway.

Seward Elementary and High Schools have a Nature Area and Trail system that encircles both schools. The maps to these trails are found near the school entrances.
