Text Box: STH WRESTLING

The essentials of wrestling

Wrestling is an ancient discipline that dates back to the time of the Greeks. It is not surprising that a sport with such a distinguished history is extremely demanding and requires a serious investment of time and energy. The rewards, however, are great and the sky is truly the limit. The most essential truth about wrestling is that each athlete is the final judge of his own destiny. You can be as good as you want to be in this ancient gauntlet of physical conditioning, technical skill, and Odyssean craftiness. It is a man’s discipline and will require a man’s courage and tenacity to achieve high accolades. Do you feel worthy of such an endeavor? Your answer should be a resounding YES!
Wrestling is open to any student, but in order to be on the varsity team, you must beat the varsity athlete in your weight class. Weight training and preparation for the season begin as soon as school commences in August.

I begin official team practices in the middle of October as soon as TAPPS regulations permit it. Mandatory morning practices for varsity (optional for freshman and JV) will be run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:15 a.m.-7:00 a.m. On these days, the afternoon practices will end promptly at 5:15 p.m. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, afternoon practices will go until 5:15 p.m., and then the athletes will execute a circuit workout in the weight room to maintain their current strength levels (approx. 30 minutes). The season lasts through the third week of February. If you have any questions, feel free to email Coach Thompson at [email protected] Also, be sure to check out the wrestling links page to see some other neat pages with useful information on the sport. Thank you and have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Coach Thompson
