Harry paused once he reached the stairs. The house was huge! He wondered where she might be but figured he’d start with the room she usually stayed in when visiting there. “Ginny?” he called as he knocked then entered. The room was empty aside from her trunks and the furniture. He leaned against the door. ‘It could take me most of the night to search the house if she doesn’t want to be found. Where could she be?’ he thought. “The new library!” he said aloud and turned back towards the stairs.
As he neared the open door of the library, he slowed. The room was dark. He sighed in disappointment and turned to go, thinking she wasn’t there. A feeling in his stomach made him stop. He turned back to the door, “Ginny,” he whispered, “are you in here?” he crashed into some piece of furniture, “aw, lumos!” his wand tip lit, the glow dimly illuminating the room.
“Harry, I should have known you would find me in here.” She was sitting on the window seat, knees pulled up to her chest. She had obviously been crying as she was currently wiping her face with the sleeve of her robe. “It’s like you can read my mind sometimes.” she sniffled as he closed the door and came to sit next to her.
Harry was all business, “Ginny, please promise me you won’t attempt to go with us.”
“Why, Harry? It’s not like I can’t fight!”
“Oh, please don’t think that! I didn’t say that or mean anything to come off that way! Its just that...”
“What? What is it Harry?”
He paused for a moment, trying to compose his thoughts, but then a rush of words came out, “if you go, I will be willing to die to protect you. That is exactly what he wants! For me to do something stupid. Well, something ELSE stupid. He knows that I am blinded when it comes to my own safety versus the safety of someone I love–and he will use that against me at every turn. If you don’t stay somewhere safe, he will hunt you down and bring you to me and...kill you.” Harry swallowed thickly, “until I finally mastered occulmency, do you know what he did to me? He sent me the vision, the one he used to lure me to the department of mysteries. He sent it to me over and over again, filled with joy at how much it tortured me. That is how evil he is. And why I can not have you out there where he can get you. I can’t lose another person that I love, not if there is anything to be done to keep them safe.”
The tears had begun to fall down both of their cheeks. Ginny reached up and wiped his away with her thumb. “I never knew that, Harry. I will stay, if you answer me one thing,” she looked into his eyes and trembled slightly.
“What is that?”
“Why are you so scared for me in particular? What was in your head when he broke through?”
Harry tore his gaze away and became entranced with something on the ceiling. “That I lmv hmeu”
“What?”
He mustered every ounce of strength and looked her in the eye, “that...that I love you.” he barely managed a whisper. But as a smile broke out on her face he said it again. “I love you, Ginny.”
She still had her hand on his cheek and leaned forward, kissing him. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he pulled her closer. “Oh, Harry, I love you to! I have for a while.” she said when they finally broke the kiss. They remained that way, just holding each other in front of the window, until Ginny began to shiver slightly. Harry pulled a blanket off of one of the couches and wrapped it around her shoulders then lit a fire in the fireplace. She moved off the window seat and sat on the rug, leaning against his chest. They stayed like that for a long time, Harry lightly running his fingers through her hair.
He kissed her on the crown of her head and she looked up at him. “Harry...” she whispered as he kissed her again. Things became more intense, almost out of hand when Harry puled away. “Wha–what’s wrong?”
He looked at her, she was beautiful, her red hair, it looked almost like fire. “Nothing, it’s just...are we going to do this? Are you sure you want to?” He rubbed her arm softly. “You know I’ve never–you know–and I don’t think you have either. I just want to make sure this is what you want. So I’m sure that I’m not taking advan--” he stopped when she kissed him again.
“Harry, I love you, but if you stop this now, you won’t have to worry about Voldemort–I will hurt you!” she pushed him back down to the floor and tossed a locking spell at the door. “Don’t worry about anything, I know what needs to be done.” She kissed him again then.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
Those were the last words spoken as they let the tide of their love sweep them away.
