Dumbledore smiled, amused, “yes, Harry, what would you like to say?” He obviously knew what was on the young man’s mind.

“Well, as I’m sure you are all aware, My aunt is actually a witch. Her memory has been changed so she would be safe from the dark lord. Well, his threat has finally passed. For good this time. I believe it is time to restore her real memories and let her choose which life she wants to lead.” Mr. Weasley made to interrupt him. “No! Now, please just hear me out! I know it seems tricky and complicated and that she will be embittered but I think she innately senses that something is not right, that it’s missing. She and my uncle have had this sort of unmentioned gap ever since the night of the dementor attack before my fifth year. She seemed surprised that she knew as much as she did and that makes him wary. Its almost like there are cracks in her memory charms.”

Allestor was nodding vehemently, “cracks indeed! I told then that the charms would not hold up forever! Not when you are piling that many on one person, they are meant for select memories, short periods of time; not over fifteen years’ worth of life to be erased and rebuilt! We couldn’t erase her memory without there being possible gaps so we just covered and modified what memories were there. I’m not surprised that some of them have broken through.” he grunted, gruffly, “we have to either reaffirm those false memories or take them away entirely. And, I warn, to reaffirm could be damaging.”

Dumbledore nodded, slight amusement in his eyes, “Arthur, what have you to say on this matter? You are minister after all, this is your decision to finalize in the end.”

He looked thunderstruck, “I know what needs to be done, I just cannot imagine the immensity of what this means! The woman has been living as a muggle for nearly twenty years now! There is a possibility that, in her anger, she will go rogue; telling of the wizarding community, or she might not believe that her real memories are indeed the real ones. She also could not want to come back to our way of existence, and doing this could destroy her life, her marriage and family that she has now!” He sighed and rubbed his prematurely greying hair, “but you all are right. She has a right to know her real past and a right to make the choice on her own.”

They sighed, in unison as Arthur called in his assistant, the young man Harry had questioned earlier, “Wiese, We need to have a miss Petunia Dursley brought in, she will probably not be willing, but tell her it’s about her nephew and I believe she will do the proper thing.” the young man left, hurriedly scratching on his parchment.
