Over sensitivity.

I’m a little ticked right now about the wave of over sensitivity that has been falling over this country after the September 11th events like an estrogenic Niagara falls. What has happened to you America? Ever since September 11th we have been shying away from the subject like Liberachi from women: bitterly and sometimes with force. What the hell is the problem? Why can’t we even mention it? Every one is suffering from this lack of balls, even the movie industry. Ever since 9/11 I have seen more editing in movies than a radio track of an ICP song.

Lets look at the list of undeserving victims:  First was the Spider-man movie. This poor movie suffered a release delay that rivals the space cushions between Star Wars movies. “Why?” You may ask. Because of last minute editing to remove scenes that featured our web-slinging hero constructing a web between the Twin Towers. While the scene was not story line intricate I found nothing wrong with it. But maybe it’s because I’m insensitive, or as I prefer to call it “not a pansy.”

Second was Men In Black II the long awaited sequel to a hit movie that made us look suspiciously at anyone in a black suit. What was wrong with this one? The final fight scene took place at the now infamous epicenter of American fear and insecurity. So yet again the movie going public must wait through more editing delays because some people are just hell bent on avoiding the subject. Well, a bit touchy are we?  Now these examples are fairly minor offences that I can ignore. But this final offence is what drove me to the breaking point.

I have been exposed to protesters who would like to have the name of the new Lord of the Rings movie “The Two Towers” changed because it’s title is “insensitive” to the families of the victims of the September 11th tragedy. Well I have a few news flashes for you literary geniuses:

1.) The Lord of the Rings was written before terrorism was even feared. Now to dumb it down for all you mindless protesters: Bin laden wasn’t even born yet.

2.) Neither set of towers has anything to do with one another. One was set in New York City and the other existed in a FICTIONAL world. In other words NOT REAL!!!!! I can’t stress this enough. New York: real. Middle- earth: NOT REAL. So why are we letting two structures in a fictitious place cause us to cower like a Frenchman from a grizzly bear? I’ll tell you why, because America has gotten touchier than a priest teaching Sunday school.

  3. The production of the movie was finished before September 11th. So why dose this seem like such a slap to the face to some people. Trust me, JRR Tolkien was not in league with Osama Bin Laden.

So what can we do about this over sensitive flood that is tearing through our country faster than Godzilla on speed? Well first and foremost we have to sit down and realize that September 11th happened. And no matter how much we pretend that nothing ever happened NOTHING can change what happened. No matter how many movies you change the Twin Towers will still be down. In point of fact, the longer we ignore this the worse off we are.  If we keep avoiding the subject then we will have more people out there with post-traumatic-stress syndrome then a Vietnam veteran’s home. The only way to avoid this Stress induced donnybrook is to take the courage and simply step out and say what is on our minds. Yes September 11th scared us all. It gave us a fear of insecurity but we cannot simply leave it at that.  We need to step up and improve that security. And for God’s sake don’t avoid the subject and walk away. I think the people who lost their lives deserve better than that. So let’s face the subject head on. God knows they had to. Think about it.
