The G-Boys: Back to School Special!

Part 6: Kidnap

Duo moved his car a few centimeters forward. “I’m buying.”

“Duo, you don’t have any money left.”

“I don’t?!” Duo dug in his pockets for his Monopoly money and came out empty. “Then I’m borrowing from you.”

“Um…sure!” said Shin after thinking for a split millisecond. He unthinkingly handed some money to his cousin.

“So…exactly how much has he stol…*ahem*…borrowed from the bank so far?” Wufei asked, arms crossed and eyes narrowing.

“$1750,” Shin said, quickly counting up his bank’s money. Shin the accountant made some more indecipherable ticks on his tally sheet that no one could understand.

Wufei was the resident policeman of Monopoly. Actually, no one had any idea how to play this Earth game. Quatre had taken one quick glance at the instructions and decided that no one would have the patience to listen to him list off the rules, so now there was a very crumpled instruction sheet in his garbage can. Miss Relena would not be pleased. Especially since the game was hers.

Heero and Trowa were in jail. Wufei had caught them money laundering in their jointly owned hotels. Bail for them was currently set at $400 each.

“I would like to buy another hotel please,” Quatre said politely, after rolling the dice. He silver top hat was on Boardwalk. Again.

Duo watched incredulously as Quatre purchased another hotel in that expensive strip. Anyone unlucky enough to land on Quatre’s property immediately went bankrupt. Duo had already resided there three times. “Shouldn’t there be a rule against owning too much property on one lot?” Duo asked, glancing at Wufei.

“Well, considering the property taxes he has to pay, I think that’s a fair exchange,” Shin said, exchanging money with Quatre. Duo watched the large pile of cash cross his face in envy. When Shin wasn’t looking, he stole a house and placed it on his own lot. Wufei was currently on his scheduled “coffee ‘n donuts” break. They could all hear Wufei flushing the toilet.

Quatre had earned enough extra cash to bail Trowa out of jail. Trowa thanked him, moved his silver dog out of the prison and back into the game. As he did so, he looked at Heero guiltily.

“Interest for bank loans are currently set at…15%,” Shin announced.

“Are you kidding?” Duo asked, the banks only customer. His quick mind tried to search for a loophole. His eyes lit up. “Then I’m opening up a savings account.” He shoved his remaining money towards Shin. “How much interest to I get in savings?”

“Hmm….” Shin thought. “How does 7% sound?”

“Done.”

Him and Shin made a really complicated handshake, sealing the deal.

Just then, the door to Quatre’s bedroom banged open.

“Ah, Heero, you’re still safe!” Relena gasped in relief, collapsing onto Quatre’s fluffy bed. The rest of the boys besides Heero raised their eyebrows at their exclusion from Relena’s concern.

“Would you like some tea?” Quatre asked, ever the courteous one.

“No time…” Relena said.

“I’m getting bored of playing Monopoly,” Duo said. “How much longer do we have to stay here?” Now would be as good a time as any to stop the game, seeing as he was on the road to bankruptcy. One more square and he would land on Quatre’s lot again. He sighed.

“You are officially released,” Relena said. Relena had kept the G-Boys contained in Quatre’s room for the entire afternoon for their own safety, while she launched her own investigation of the strange goings-on in the school. The time had painfully stretched into night as the five boys plus Shin were locked in one large room together. The environment had soon become unbearable with Heero attempting to escape out Quatre’s window but getting caught by Relena’s security guards down below and Trowa jumping up and down on Quatre’s bed to make up for his absent trampoline. Basically, everyone had annoyed the heck out of everyone.

“Whoo hoo!” Duo said, jumping up and cheering. He was about to run out the door when Relena said, “Trey’s gone.”

Just then, Wufei came out of the washroom, off his “coffee break”. “I knew it,” he said, pointing at the air. “Khushrenada is behind all of this.”

Everyone rolled their eyes. They had all tried to explain to Wufei that Trey and Treize were two different people. The charming principal had, by now, proved his honest intentions in all their hearts save one.

“When did this happen?” Quatre asked, dialing up his sisters. If anyone knew about Trey’s whereabouts, they would.

“Just an hour ago,” Relena said, sighing. She rolled over onto her side. “What am I going to do?” she moaned, hands covering her face. “My school is falling apart.”

Everyone stared at each other blankly. They didn’t know whether to agree with her in happiness or to just keep their mouths shut. They opted for the latter.

Quatre was talking quietly on the phone. “Oh, really?” he said, fine eyebrow raised. “Well then, we’ll try our best to find him. No. Stay in your rooms. Stay….” Quatre put the phone down. “They hung up on me.”

“I’ll send some security guards over to contain them,” Relena said tiredly. Quatre thanked her gratefully. “Meanwhile, I have a new mission for all of you.”

Heero was immediately by her side, an innate impulse in him triggered. “What is the mission?” he asked, whipping out his laptop.

“Rescue Trey and bring him back safely to the school. Wherever he went. Alive,” she added as an afterthought, glaring at Wufei.

“Mission accepted,” Heero muttered, accessing a map of the school. Relena sighed. Quatre nudged Heero. “Will you be alright by yourself?” Heero grated out tightly.

“No. Can you stay with me?”

“No.”

Relena rolled over and sulked. It was just about that time that she glanced into Quatre’s waste bin. “Are those my Monopoly instructions?!”

The six boys bolted out the door before she could call her security guards to quarantine them again.

“So, what’s the plan?” Duo asked, glad to be out and about again.

“We split up into pairs and search the entire premises. You all still have your communication devices?” Heero asked, bringing out his.

Everyone wordlessly brought out their walkie-talkies. All accept for Duo. He had lost his from day one. He smiled apologetically.

“Take mine,” Quatre said, handing over his device. “I’ll share with Heero.”

Duo nodded, grabbed Shin, and bolted with Quatre’s walkie-talkie before Heero or Wufei could reprimand him. “I’ll keep him out of trouble,” Shin called back. He raised his hand for a wave and they were gone.

Wordlessly, Heero and Quatre, and Trowa and Wufei split up and went their separate ways.

“Where shall we start?” Shin asked, looking about. By now, the entire school was dark save for a few open places, as the evening started to kick in. The night was still young. Perfect.

“Umm…let’s visit Quatre’s sisters. Yeah. We’ll start there….”

“Why, cousin?”

“Because they got all the gossip and they’re always hanging with Trey, though I don’t know why, since I’m so obviously more charming than he is.”

Shin laughed. “Right you are, cousin,” he said, crossing his fingers. “Shall we go then?”

Duo was already galloping eagerly away. Shin raced to catch up with him, not wanting to be lost in the dark.

Heero and Quatre were in the teacher’s quarters, sleuthing about.

“Are you sure we won’t get caught?” asked Quatre, looking over his shoulder. His golden hair gleamed brightly as it passed beneath a lamp.

Heero stopped and stared at him. “Do you think I’m stupid?”

Quatre rolled his eyes to the ceiling in thought. “Sometimes,” he said.

Luckily, Heero didn’t hear as something else caught his attention. Veering to the right, Heero zipped through a pair of swinging doors and into a bar. Quatre followed suit, nearly getting stuck between the glass doors since Heero didn’t bother holding it open for him. Quatre yanked at his school uniform, and some of the frilly stuff from his uniform got left behind. Quatre sighed.

It was real dark in there. Quatre coughed a little at the cigarette smoke forming a haze near the ceiling. He gulped.

Heero was marching steadily towards someone. He ignored the stares of the other teachers gazing after the intruder. They didn’t seem to care, though.

At the bar was sitting a man with long silver hair. He looked really familiar. And that’s the direction Heero was headed.

As Quatre approached, he could see Heero grabbing the front of the silver-haired man’s tank top and spitting angrily. The man brushed Heero’s arm aside with one sweep and continued sipping his beer. Heero started again….

“No!” Quatre said, stepping between them, a very dangerous thing to do he suddenly realized. “This is Mechs! He saved your life!”

“Who’s Mechs?” the silver-haired man said. “You? Me? Why does everyone call me Mechs here?” The man grumbled. “I only got the job ‘cause it was decent. No one said anything about teaching the little kiddies how to swim. I don’t wanna teach, dammit. I wanna go back to the beach….” The man slumped over on the bar counter and fell fast asleep, his drunken speech over.

Quatre took a quick glance at the man’s teacher name tag: Pechs, with a photo ID that looked exactly like Zechs if Zechs ever smiled with his teeth and got a nice tan. “Heero,” Quatre suddenly realized. “This man rescued miss Relena when she nearly drowned at the beach last summer.”

They both looked down at the now-snoring Pechs. A bit of drool was coming out the side of his well-defined mouth. Quatre took a tissue and embarrassingly wiped it for him. “See, don’t you recognize him?”

Heero thought for a moment. “Then all the more reason to kill him! Arrgh!” Heero started at Pech’s neck.

Heero’s walkie-talkie went off at just that moment. Quatre grabbed it off Heero’s waist belt and flipped it on. “Yes?”

It was Wufei. His eternally composed face came on the screen. “Trowa and I may have found the perpetrator. We…what the heck is going on?”

Quatre turned around and found Heero strangling the former lifeguard. Pechs was sitting on the bar stool while his head flopped back and forth like a broken wind up doll, Heero’s hands clasped tightly about his neck.

“Em…can I call you back later? Heero seems to have gotten into one of his ‘predicaments’.”

On-screen, Wufei nodded. “Also, I tried to contact Maxwell, but his idiot radio is not responding.”

“Oh, really?” Quatre thought. “Then try again.” He hung up distractedly before Wufei could get in the last word. Quatre sighed, blowing his bangs above his eyes. “And I thought it was the right choice, partnering up with someone other than Duo.”

Pechs was turning blue. Cracking his knuckles, Quatre readied himself….

Wufei hung up, annoyed.

“Did they find anything?” Trowa asked quietly.

“I don’t know what is going on, but no one seems to be doing their job!” Not only was Wufei vexed, but he was also nervous.

The first place that Trowa suggested they visit was the library. After talking to that one woman librarian for the LONGEST time, Trowa had gleaned that Trey had left for the girls dorms right after a staff meeting, following up on some complaint about some girls making too much noise. Nobody saw him after that.

So here they were in the girls dorm rooms, and Wufei was wishing that he had locked himself in Quatre’s washroom rather than stick his nosy nose out when Relena came in this night. Another woman. They were always causing trouble for him!

“So…are you ready?” Trowa asked.

Wufei shivered and gulped, face looking pale.

“Then I will go on ahead by myself. You still have your communication device?”

Wufei nodded, Trowa nodded too and, face as serious as ever, marched off into the dark alone.

“You sure you want to do this, cousin?”

“What could you and me NOT do?”

Shin thought for a moment. “That’s true.” Whenever Shin and Duo were together, they could scam the pants off of anyone. Shin acted as the cover while Duo acted as the hidden mastermind. When Duo left L2 and separated from his cousin for Earth, the entire colony celebrated.

While Shin went up to the security guards lined up in front of Quatre’s sisters room and did his act, Duo hid around the corner.

That was when his walkie-talkie (or, rather, Quatre’s) started acting up. Irritated, Duo whipped it out.

A bunch of static filled the screen. He thought he could hear someone yelling on the other end, then a humming.

Duo furrowed his brows and drew his ear closer. It sounded like a man humming. The man was doing this mindless tune over and over again. In fact…

“And then the old lady just upped and left us. Can you believe it?” Shin paused, face grinning exactly like Duo’s. The bodyguards appeared nonplussed. Shin waited. The bodyguards waited. The bodyguards’ faces appeared exactly the same as when Shin started his elaborate tale. One of them blinked. Shin turned his head to where Duo was hiding and repeated his cue. “I SAID, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?”

No Duo. Shin looked back and forth from the bodyguards to the empty corner and made a silent sigh.

“Um, I think I will go for a drink of water now, nice meeting you sirs and good day.” Shin took both their hands in his and shook them, then jounced off. The bodyguards stared after him, wondering what that weird encounter was all about.

Shin whipped around the corner, ready to pound Duo’s head…but Duo wasn’t there. Shin looked down at the empty corner. Oh, there was the radio. Along with one of Duo’s very long hairs, roots and all. Shin was about to throw it out when it just occurred to him that Duo would never allow his 3 foot hair to EVER part from his head…at least not unintentionally.

It didn’t take him too long to put two and two together and come to the conclusion that…

“Duo got kidnapped!”

Picking up Duo’s radio, Shin ran.

Pechs was out cold. So was Heero, although for entirely different reasons. Quatre rubbed his knuckles and hoped he didn’t have to do that ever again.

Quatre asked the bartender for a little cold water and the bartender passed him a glass. Taking out an ice cube, Quatre pressed it against Pech’s neck.

“Oh, dear god, what was that?” Pechs sat up, instantly awake, then groaned because of his major hangover. He saw Quatre holding the ice cube. “Oh. It’s you. Haven’t seen you in a while.”

“You…you recognize me?” Quatre asked, amazed at this man’s phenomenal memory.

“Yeah, you were part of Relena’s gang. You were wearing that thong.”

“Right.…” Quatre blushed and decided to change the subject. “Would you like a glass of water?” he asked, shoving the glass forcefully towards Pechs.

“Don’t mind if I do,” Pechs said, taking the water and downing it all in one gulp. “Aaaahhh….”

“I never knew you taught here.”

Pechs scrunched up his face in disgust. “I didn’t know either. I just thought I was to be a lifeguard, simple as that. That’s all I want, really….” Pechs eyes unfocused, gazing off into the distance. “But then someone mentioned that I would make a better swim instructor so I got transferred and now I want my old job back. Gotta talk to Trey….”

“Speaking of Mr. Khushrenada, we were looking for him also.” Quatre quickly held his hands over his mouth. He couldn’t let anyone know that Trey disappeared! That would set the whole school a panic!

“Yeah, heard he disappeared,” Pechs said, ordering another beer.

“How do YOU know?” Quatre gazed incredulously.

“Oh, just overheard some people talking. People tend to say things in front of me because they don’t think I care to hear.” Pechs scrunched his face in disgust. “Which I don’t.”

“Do you know where he went?” Quatre asked desperately.

 “No.”

Quatre sighed and decided to go about waking Heero.

“But I did hear someone say they wished you were all dead, you and all your friends.”

Quatre dropped Heero’s head mid-lift and squeaked. “You did? Who? Was it him?” Quartre asked, pointing at Heero’s face.

“No, some girl.” Pechs squinted. “Naaah, I don’t remember.” Quatre was about to wake Heero again when Pechs said, “But I’ll recognize her when I see her.”

Quatre dropped Heero’s head again, plucked the beer bottle out of Pech’s hands, and dragged him towards the door. “I would be very interested in hearing what else you have to say….”

Behind them, Heero lay snoring on the floor of the bar.

Trowa walked up to the noisiest doorway and knocked politely. A girl with frizzy red hair answered the door. “Sorry, only…who’s this?” She looked Trowa up and down and was immediately impressed. “Did we hire you?…”

“Fran, who is it?” someone else called from inside.

“I dunno, but he appeared at our door so I guess he belongs to us,” Fran said, stars in her eyes.

Fran’s roommate appeared behind her and the new girl and Trowa locked eyes.

“You,” Trowa said, pressing the door open.

The girl took one look at Trowa and bolted.

“Hey!” Fran shouted as she was shoved out of the way.

Trowa opened the door all the way and quickly apologized to Fran who, unfortunately, got mashed behind the door. He looked around.

Some sort of slumber party was being held in this noisy room, the stereo was turned to maximum, and he had stepped right into the middle of some facial session.

“Eep!” one of the girls said, towel-turban on her head and cucumbers on her face. Trowa murmured apology, then quickly scanned the premises. There. Through the bathroom. Trowa leaped over the girls doing facial and arrived at the bathroom door, just in time to see the girl he was looking for jump out the bathroom window.

Trowa looked down. The girl darted away, in the direction of the rose garden.

Trowa turned around and quickly radioed Wufei. Not everyone could slip glass beads and make him trip without getting away with it.

Duo woke up. Why was it so cold all of a sudden?

“Ah. You’re awake. I thought I’d be here all by myself for the rest of the night.”

Duo turned his head and gasped. “Tre…I mean, Mr. Khushrenada!”

“Hello, Duo.” They were both sitting outside on the grass with arms and legs tied up, surrounded by tall hedges. A little ways away were a bunch of roses. The moon was out and the grass was wet, and its coldness seeped in through his clothing. Duo shivered.

“What happened to you?” Duo asked.

“Well, I was on my way to impose discipline on some students when I believe I got mugged. Next thing I know, I wake up in my own rose garden. How quaint.” Trey smiled as he looked around at his lovely roses.

“I don’t think you were mugged, sir. I think you and me just got kidnapped.”

“Really?” Trey furrowed his fine brow. “Who would want to kidnap me?”

Duo shrugged as best he could through his tight bonds. Whoever it was didn’t know how to tie knots, and they were arranged randomly all over the stiff ropes. Which made them nearly impossible to untie. Duo sighed. He should be in Quatre’s sisters’ room by now, not out here in the middle of nowhere with a principal!

Trey started humming as he leaned back on some shrubbery. As Trey continued humming the same tune, Duo suddenly perked up.

“So it WAS you! I thought I heard you on the radio.”

“No, it can’t be me,” Trey chuckled. “I never went on any radio station, I’m just a principal.”

“That humming! The guys and I always hear you on Quatre’s wonked up radio. I mean….”

Luckily, Trey looked completely confused, as Duo almost gave away the fact that he and the boys had once eavesdropped on Trey and Relena’s conversations. But how?

“Do you have some sort of electronic radar on you?” Duo outright asked.

“Not that I know of. I do have a pager, but I believe my cellular phone got lost on the way here. Why do you ask?”

Duo quickly shuffled over, whipping across the grass in a sort of armless, legless transport. By the time he reached Trey, he collapsed, panting like a dog. Then he shuffled his way up, head searching Trey’s clothing.

“Do you have any metallic implants?”

“No.”

“Just asking.”

Duo continued to move his nose in a search for Trey’s hidden radar. Would it be in his belt? Maybe. Shoes? Hope not. Watch….

“Duo. What exactly are you doing?” Duo’s head was moving all across his body and he was feeling slightly uncomfortable.

“Hmm….Do you have an item of clothing that you wear EVERYday?”

Trey thought for a moment and decided to play along. “My coat.”

“Your coat….” Duo examined Trey’s clothing and finally gestured with his head. “Where’d you get that?”

“Oh, this? This is a rose-shaped brooch that was given to me on my first day here by Relena….”

“I LOVE YOU, RELENA!”

Trey smiled. “Young love. The most precious treasure.”

Duo started yelling at the rose brooch pinned onto Trey’s coat lapel. “Trowa, Quatre, Wufei, Heero…. We’re here!!!”

Shin reached them first, due to his (Quatre’s) wonked-out radio. When he discovered Duo’s whereabouts, he radioed Quatre and him and Pechs brought Trey and a shivering Duo back to Trey’s head office where they were currently warming up by a fire. Shin left to contact Relena.

“I say…,” Trey said, then he sneezed.

“Aaaachooo!” Duo sneezed back.

“Bless you,” said Trey.

“Thank y—“

“Aaaachoooo!”

“Bless you,” said Duo.

“Thanks,” said Trey, sniffling. Pechs handed the principal a kerchief. Trey blew his nose loudly, and then Duo blew his nose louder. It’s like they were having a competition or something.

“Where’s Heero?” Duo asked nasally.

Quatre dropped his teacup, spilling tea over the dark red carpet. “Oh, dear, I have forgotten about him!” He was about to run to the door when Trowa and Wufei barreled in, a girl in tow.

“I didn’t do anything!” the girl said, screaming. She kicked and gnashed at Trowa, then tried to bite Wufei. It took all Wufei’s willpower just to not drop her right there and run screaming into the bathroom about cootie germs.

They deposited her on the carpet right in front of a groggy Duo and Trey. “Is something the matter?” Trey asked the boys. Pechs handed the principal a warm water bag and Trey placed it on his own head. Pechs stuck a thermometer in Trey’s mouth. Where was Pechs getting all these things?!

Duo’s eyes narrowed into slits. “You were at the pool.”

“Well, doesn’t everybody swim?” Summer said.

“Wanda nearly drowned.”

Summer shrugged. “Not my fault.”

“Those glass beads at the library were yours, weren’t they?” Trowa asked quietly.

“I don’t know what you are talking about.” Summer said indignantly. “Why am I even here?”

“Why did you kidnap the principal?” Duo snapped.

“The principal was kidnapped?” Summer gasped, surprised. “Mr. Khushrenada, are you all right?”

Trey had fallen asleep. Pechs plucked the thermometer out of his mouth. “Fever,” he said. He went away to get some more stuff for the principal.

“Stop trying to play your innocent act!” Wufei started, but everyone hushed him, then pointed to the principal. Trey appeared oblivious.

“You’re the one that killed Quatre, weren’t you?” Duo began in hushed whispers.

Quatre gasped. “I died?” He gasped again.

“Well, he’s alive right now,” Summer snapped back, just as quiet.

“I can’t believe I died. Why didn’t someone tell me?” Quatre talked to Trowa, then to Wufei. Then he left and walked around the room, looking for someone else to confirm his death.

“And you blasted Heero, right? What are you trying to do, girl?” No one had ever seen Duo look so angry before.

Pechs came back with a blanket and a couple of other odd items. Quatre wandered back and asked Pechs whether he knew about his death. Pechs shook his head. When Quatre looked at Summer, he screamed.

“What more proof do you need?” Wufei asked. “The woman is pure evil!” Everyone hushed him again. Quatre crawled beneath Trey’s chair and refused to come out.

“Pechs? What do you think?” Duo asked. They needed the opinion of an outsider.

Pechs had enshrouded Trey in a blanket. When he caught everyone staring at him, he rubbed the back of his neck and grinned sheepishly. Then he looked at Summer and concentrated on her. He frowned.

“She didn’t do it.”

“See?” Summer said, glaring at everyone.

“Are you sure?!” Duo asked. Wufei took the liberty of hushing him, looking real smug. Duo fell out of his chair and grabbed Summer’s face, at the same time pursing her lips like a fish. “Don’t be deceived by her looks!”

Pechs shrugged. “She didn’t do it.”

“Then who…” began Trowa.

Heero, with the help his laptop, finally got to continue his search that he started on the very first day of school. Relena had hired him to search for a dangerous criminal that she believed was harbouring him or herself in the school as a cover to assassinate her. And, of course, Relena being assassinated was a very dangerous thing as, being ruler of the Sank Kingdom, that was just one step away from being a member of the World Nation and, ultimately, RULER OF THE EARTH. Sometimes one forgot how important Relena was, because of the way she acts otherwise. She was still stupid though. That was Heero’s thought as he began walking to a particular location outside the school.

He stopped on the cricket lawn. If he estimated correctly, he should be seeing the assassin right…about…now.

Pechs took a stretch and sat down, digging around for Quatre among the blankets. “She didn’t do it. It was her friend.”

“WHAT?!”

That woke Trey up. He snuffled to, then lapsed back into the cushions. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to fall asleep. What did I miss?”

“My roommate?” Summer gasped. She got a real weird look on her face. “No way.”

“Does she have frizzy red hair?” Pechs asked.

“Yeah.”

“She said it herself. She wanted you boys all dead. I was on lifeguard duty when she yelled it to the wind. She must not have noticed me sitting up there. No one does.” Pechs sighed.

“Pechs! I love you!” Duo said, running up to Pechs and squeezing his cheeks.

Trey had a really weird look on his face. “Duo, I thought you said you loved Relena.”

“So. We finally meet.”

Heero and the red-haired girl were facing it off. “Your name isn’t Fran, is it?”

Fran shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. I got a mission to do and you’re the only one in my way. I thought I could pick you all off one by one so the little Princess’ death would look like one big massacre but I guess she didn’t hire the best for nothing.”

Heero smiled. “She is annoying, isn’t she?”

“Pretty much,” Fran said, yawning. “I was beginning to get bored of this place anyway. It’s tiring, trying to act like a student all the time. Well, gotta go. See ya.” Fran leaped away.

Heero, surprisingly, did nothing to try and catch her. “Who do you work for?” he yelled to the wind.

“That’s a secret,” Fran said faintly from far off, as she disappeared among the trees, lugging her sleeping bag.

Heero looked about the empty cricket lawn. He really hated to do this, on account of personal pride, but…

Laying down on the grass, Heero started.

The boys and Relena all dashed out, searching for Heero. They found him on the cricket lawn, apparently locked down and tangled among the cricket wickets.

“Oh, dear, Heero, I am so sorry for abandoning you,” said Quatre. Both Quatre and Relena had a quick race to Heero’s prone body. Quatre beat her there first. The power of guilt is stronger than the power of love.

Heero’s neck had somehow been pinned down by one of the wickets, and so were the rest of his limbs. When they reached them, Heero was glaring at them. Not surprising.

Trowa and Duo started pulling off the hoops while Relena stood in the background both reprimanding the boys for leaving holes in the ground and to be careful with her hubby.

As soon as they pulled the wickets off him, the first thing that Heero did was look around. The second thing he did was lunge towards Pechs and start attacking him again.

Duo and Quatre stood together, looking down at Pechs and Heero rolling around on the lawn with Relena screaming at them and telling them not to hurt each other.

“Y’know what, Quatre, ol’ buddy?”

“Let me guess. ‘Some things never change’?”

“Actually, I was gonna say can I go out with one of your sisters but, yeah, same thing.”

Quatre sighed. “Well, I suppose it’s about time I let go, despite my better judgement…. But there is one question you must answer me first.”

“Shoot.”

“About my death….”

“SO, WHO WANTS TO GO FOR ICE CREAM?”

“Duo…. Nevermind.”

Epilogue

“Well…I guess this is it.” Duo sniffed.

“It was nice visiting you, cousin, but I guess it’s time for me to leave.”

Everyone was standing at the airport, seeing Shin off. Quatre’s sisters would be staying one more day before they left back for Arabia too. One more day, whoopee!

“You’ll keep my money safe?” Duo asked.

“As long as I am standing on these two legs, Shinigami Maxwell will keep Duo’s money safe. You should come back to L2, Duo. Everybody misses you.” Shin winked.

“Naaah, I know where I’m wanted. And it’s right here on Earth.”

“NO!” everyone said.

“Geesh, can’t y’all take a joke?”

Shinigami turned to Quatre. “I would like to thank you for your hospitality during my stay here. The bath was excellent. If you have any junk that you don’t need, you know where I live.”

“You’re very welcome,” said Quatre, smiling. “Wait a minute.” Quatre furrowed his brow. “What bath?”

“ANYWAY you’d better go.” Duo shoved his cousin towards the terminal and Shinigami tripped over his luggage. Then he was on the escalator to the spaceship and on his way. He turned around and waved back at them. He looked exactly like Duo that way.

Quatre racked his brain, trying to remember. Then he gave up. Duo was right. Some things were better left unremembered.

Pechs left back for the beach. The tall, tanned, white-haired man resigned his position, to the disappointment of Relena and all the girls who had secret crushes on him. “Come back to the beach one day,” was all Pechs said back to them before he drove off in his old convertible. They certainly would.

Mechs resigned too. His encounter with ice cream and Quatre’s sisters made him have a nervous break down and he quit, needing time to recover. Last they heard, he had opened up his own private clinic. He refuses to service anyone with the last name of Winner.

Trey remained at the school as a principal, until the end of his term. During that time, he rewarded the boys medals of honour and bravery for protecting the school, upon Relena’s request. He still had no idea what went on with his kidnapping. He wasn’t even sure why he was giving out the awards. Oh, well. It was just one of those things.

The boys got their high school diplomas and cheered. On graduation night, Quatre was class valedictorian and everyone fell asleep on his speech, including Relena. Wufei complained about the dorky hats, Duo got EVERYONE to sign his yearbook, and Heero and Relena went to the prom as a date. They didn’t win as class King and Queen though, much to Relena’s disappointment. That went to Summer and her date. Trowa went to the prom dateless and got drunk. He started yelling his undying love for Ms. Peacock the librarian and it took all the boys to drag him from the stage. The next morning, everyone looked at him weird. Trowa didn’t care. He sewed whenever he got stressed out
