Ashan's Blade
The
tale of Ashan's blade is said to have its origins in the myth of
Estla's journey and the consequent creation of the Shanla. The
story does not mention Ashan succeeding in his attempts to end his own
life after the failure of his quest, but another tale arose...
After
countless years of trying, Ashan had failed to take his life. He had
tried weapons and nature, but nothing could even draw from him blood.
Driven to the edge of madness, Ashan found that although he could
injure himself, and draw his own blood, he could not kill himself with
his own hands. On one day - he could not tell which, for all days
seemed alike, seemed the same - he took a single strand of hair and
made it sharper than the strongest blade, with his skin he forged the
handle for that blade, and on it he incrusted beautiful gems of blood
and tears. When it was over, the took the dagger and plunged it into
his heart... ending his life, and his torment. The dagger survived,
still, and some believe his essence remains trapped inside, unable to
be freed until the dagger is destroyed.
It is
said that the dagger still exists, surfacing every thousand years or
so, in the hands of Shanla or even Halle. Until this day, legend or
real, the dagger is said to be the only weapon capable of drawing blood
from a Shanla.
