    Arthei
        The Guardians possess a common language among them, known as Arthei, which was believed to have been imposed unto the Shanla long ago, erasing virtually if not completely the usage of their previous language, thought to have been learned from the Ancients, and which is referred to as old arthei, despite its lack of similarity with the Guardians' arthei. Although some Shanla still remember the old arthei, they rarely use it, resorting to it only when an ancient spell is to be read or translated to arthei for better comprehension. The Halle, because of their influences from sources such as the Dessra Netu, are aware of arthei and may know a few words and phrases, but most do not master it.


    Old Arthei
       Believed to have been the language of the Ancients, before the first arrival of the Guardians into this realm, it is all but extinct among the Shanla. The Guardians refuse to acknowledge their awareness of it, and Halle rarely have the need for it.


    Distrah
       A dead language, unknown to the Shanla and mortal sorcerers. There is no evidence that the Guardians have any knowledge of it. It was once the language spoken by an entire culture, but now its only appearance is in the Shanla's dream of death.
