| Episode II- World of Desire | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The second episode of Outlaw Star begins where the first left off- Jim had just opened the trunk containing a naked cryogenically frozen woman. Hilda calls her "Melfina", and the trunk begins resuscitation, which will take 600 seconds (10 minutes). Hilda drops her bionic arm and tells Jim and Gene that she won't tell them anything until they fix it. Jim and Gene go outide to get supplies from the car and hide it. Jim tells Gene that he doesn't trust Hilda, and Gene tells Jim not to worry, and then Jim says (truthfully) that girls usually make him screw up ("up yours!"). A few minutes later, they're in the barn, Jim fixing Hilda's arm and Gene is inquiring Hilda about what she's doing. Hilda says that she took Melfina because the pirates wanted her, and she had no idea why Melfina is so special. She says the pirates owed her, and that was her way of getting her money back. Jim finishes fixing the arm (with 350 seconds left on Melfina's clock), and the pirates approach the farmsite. The trio kill the lights and prepare for holy war. Gene asks Jim for a #3. Jim reminds Gene that he used his last #3 on the pirate flying on the Nagias (see Outlaw World episode summary). All they have left is a #5 and a #19. Jim gives them to Gene, all the while everyone is exchanging shots. Hilda tells them to hold off for about 15 minutes while she gets her dropship out of the pond nearby. Gene -of course- doesn't trust Hilda, so he hands Jim a gun and tells her to go with her ("I'm supposed to be the brains of this outfit..."). 300 seconds are left on the clock. Gene fires his #5, cancelling out a tao-dragon thing the Old Man (that's all they call him, even in the credits) conjured. Hilda and Jim run out and begin getting Horus' dropship out of the pond. Gene tries his #19 ("eat this!") and.... it's a dud. Melfina's resuscitation is complete. There's Melfina, naked as a jay standing in front of Gene. In this scene, even unedited, they do a nice job of dodging anything considered wrong in US culture. She says the date, that the Leyline project has been founded, and then falls to her knees sobbing, "Why? Why did I have to be born?" Jim runs in and says "Gene! This isn't the time to make a lady cry!" ("It wasn't me!"). Gene puts his cape on Melfina, and follows Jim out to Hilda's dropship. They all hop in, and are off into Sentinnel III's orbit, where Hilda's ship, Horus, is waiting. They hook up to the ship. Melfina, Gene, and Jim are sitting in the "backseat" as Hilda prepares Horus to leave orbit and go into sub-ether drive. Hilda asks if Jim and Gene are in on the deal, and Jim replies with an enthusiastic "we aren't leaving until we get our money!" Gene just kind of sits there, looking green. Hilda asks what his problem is, and Jim calls him a space cherry. Gene objects with "I ain't a cherry! My first time was just too soon, is all." Horus counts down to sub-ether drive, all the while Jim's taunting him ("why don't you just pass out already?"), and, as soon as the ship goes into sub-ether drive, Gene screams. Next, we see a flashback of Gene on a (different) ship with his father. Gene is around the age of 14, 6 years before the current takes place. Gene tells his dad that he's got "all the controls down pat!", Gene's father smiles at him, then warning lights go off. A bloodied Gene's dad shoves the teen into the ship's only escape pod, and sends it away. Gene wakes up, alone in the seat. Hilda walks in, and asks what Gene's problem is, suggesting that he's afraid of space. Gene denies everything, just he has memories. Jim and Melfina then enter, and Jim teases Gene endlessly. Hilda guides Horus into the Blue Heaven port (#8). Inside, Hilda talks with Mikey and Swanzo. Mikey is a Terran like everyone else, and Swanzo is a Corbonite. Mikey and Swanzo conclude that Hilda's started a tour group by the looks on Jim and Gene's faces. Swanzo goes on to give Hilda a message from one of her counterparts, saying that he can't make it to help Hilda with some job she's working on ("That chickenshit!") Hilda, after compromising with Gene, sends Jim and Melfina clothes shopping, and Gene and Hilda head off to a bar. Hilda claims she's looking for some help with her job. Gene asks what the job is (implying that he's interested), and Hilda says that she has to pick up a ship- a special ship. A group of stupid looking idiots approaches Gene and Hilda, saying that they're just what Hilda's looking for. Hilda tells them off, and they want to fight. Gene gets up, and Hilda tells him that she can handle it on her own, and she whips out a taser. They all stand there, looking at eachother for a few moments, then Hilda charges, electrocuting them into stupor. They all run off, the bar patrons cheering. Gene offers his services to Hilda, and Hilda accepts. Next, we see Melfina and Jim clothes shopping. Melfina's trying on her purdy clothes that she now usually wears, and Jim asks what's taking so long. She opens the curtain and asks what they think. Jim and the clerk approve enthusiastically. They then go to the hotel they agreed to meet at, come to find out that Gene and Hilda are sharing a room, and what's worse... A BED! Jim curses for a moment, then gets the key to the room he and Melfina are sharing. In the hotel room, Melfina's taking a shower, and Jim is still cursing. Melfina comes out and sits on the bed, right next to Jim. They share small talk for a moment, and then Melfina asks if they'll be sleeping together. Jim jumps up and screams that she has to sleep in the other bed. The lights are out, and everyone's sleeping- even the guy at the front desk. The music hints that something's gone terribly wrong. Two men are seen creeping down a darkened hall. They test their electric rods, and burst in. They electrocute the bed, thinking that Gene and Hilda are fast asleep, but... no one's in the bed! Gene and Hilda give them a good whack in the back of the head with their elbows, and they're down for the count. We then find out that this is a premeditated break-in when one of the men's radio comes on asking if they got Gene and Hilda. They run out into the hall, and hear a lot of whirring and thumping. The elevator door opens to reveal that a rather large robot suit was using it. It breaks through the wall, looking very menacing. Gene's upset that there's a rule on Blue Heaven that you can't use a gun, and Hilda assures him that the robot won't be using one either... |
