Theme of Research
Development of chemical teaching materials for upper secondary school in Cambodia.

Outline of Research Plan
The purpose of my research is to develop and to examine chemical teaching materials prepared for upper secondary schools in Cambodia. The main target is to develop simple, cheap and available teaching materials which planned under the consideration of the situation in Cambodia school, where laboratory equipment is rarely available.

The research method is carried out by the following plan:
Stage 1: Base on the requirement of science education situation in Cambodia, teaching materials are developed such as experimental worksheets, experimental apparatus, lesson plans and so on.

Stage 2: Developed teaching materials are used in front of students at upper secondary school both in Japan and in Cambodia. The effectiveness of those teaching materials, then, is analyzed through pre/post-tests and feedbacks from students. The analysis will be done through the consideration of how much the teaching materials are possible within the curriculum, applicable and interested by students and how much they could bring students understanding the lesson concepts.

What is going on right now?
Under the supervision and guidance by Professor Dr. Masakazu KITA, I research in laboratory and develop a number of teaching materials and Unit Planning on detergent analysis and conductivity of solution.

In the case of detergent, the research is to investigate how detergent affects the surface tension of water. At the same time, several methods to determine detergent amount in sample water such as marbling ink method, capillary method, drop-weight method, and fabric dyeing methods are prepared.

Concerning on conductivity, the research aims to use conductivity method to determine the amount of dissolved salts in aqueous solution or water sample. Furthermore, conductimetric titration of several acid-base neutralization reactions also investigates. In this case, a simple conductivity meter is invented to serve in the whole research standardized by actual conductivity meter.

To evaluate how these Unit Planning and teaching materials are useful for science classroom, several practical activities are carried out in classrooms both in Japanese and Cambodian High Schools. Feedbacks are collected from all learners. The data is analyzed and will be compiled as the thesis.

My research almost completes right now.
