Many centuries later, Ceres may be dead but Aya, her reincarnation, isn't. Whenever anyone child in the Mikage family turns 16 they must look at the mummified celestial maiden hand. When both Aya and her twin brother Aki did, Aya showed the signs that Ceres was inside of her where as Aki showed the signs that the founder of the Mikage family was born inside of him and that he would help the family, yet for Aya, however, she must be killed.
However many people come to Aya's aid and with that she plans to stop and foil the Mikage's plans while also making sure that Ceres will not kill anyone from her family as long as she can make sure she can find Ceres' hagoromo in time.

Aya's twin brother and is the older of two. He is very protective of his sister and loves her very much.
He too was there with Aya on their 16th birthday when he saw the mummified hand like she did but instead he had all these cuts appear over his body. The Mikage family knew that Aki was the Progenitor, the one who made the Mikage family of who they are today. He was vital to them.
However, just as Aya has an alter ego, so does Aki and his is actually Shizo Mikage, the one who kept Ceres' hagoromo. Aki soon loses the fight to keep his other self back and lies dormant for a very long time with Shizo controling his body. However in the end he breaks free to stop he reincarnate from attacking Aya and telling her to kill him to free him of his suffering, to which she does, or Ceres does really, even though Aya was very reluctant.

Basically the main character of the story, Aya Mikage is basically an average high school teen until she finds out the day she turns 16 that she has a Celestial Maiden dwelling inside of her, who can also switch places with her and take control from time to time..
Now on the run from being killed of the Mikage and to hopefully free Aki, she soon finds friends in Yuhi and Suzumi Aogiri, Mrs. Q, Chidori Kurama, Shuro and also Toya Mizuki, whom she soon falls in love with later on.
She soons understands more of Ceres' pains and also promises to help her find her hagoromo while also trying to stop her cousin Kagami's project with the C-Genomes.

Aya first meets Toya when he sees her life from nearly being killed. In the beginning he seemslike the enemy, working for the Mikage but soon he joins Aya's and the others side.
Toya has no recollection of his memories at first.He finds himself in Tokyo with only knowing his name Toya and the name Mikage. He joins them in hopes for them to return his memories.
In truth, Toya isn't a human at all but actually Ceres' hagoromo the one that Shizo had gotten rid of. Over the centuries it adapted and turned itself into a baby, being Toya himself. An old man found him and took him to his living quarters on an island, where he saw the baby grow into a young man over mearly ten days and nights. The man was the one who called him Toya, which incidentally means ten nights.
Seeing as he is part of the hagoromo, any wounds he receives heal by themselves over a very quick time. He can also grow angelic wings to fly and his hands and feet become webbed when he swims. He also has this dagger that can come out of his wrist which can send powerful energy at his opponents and he can heal people as well.
During the series Toya falls in love with Aya and vice versa, even telling her he'd give up his own memories to be with her.
Near the end of the series Toya finds out what his true purpose is, to return the hagoromo to Ceres, even if that means giving up his eternal life. But he gets to be with Aya for still some time to help her and to raise their child.

Ceres is a Celestial Maiden and somewhat of the reincarnation of Aya. She appeared when Aya had looked at the mummified hand of a celestial maiden and thus Ceres was released.
Not much is known of Ceres in the beginning except that she wants her hagoromo back at all costs and that she wants to seek revenge on the Mikage and to kill Aki, Aya's twin brother, who seems to be the reincarnate of the man that kept Ceres' hagoromo and violated her.
Later on we find out more of Ceres' past and that she isn't really evil, just needing her hagoromo back or else she'll die adventually. We also find out that she doesn't really know where she comes from but that her and the other celestial maidens are sent down to mate with men to produce progeny, or descendants. In the end Ceres gets her hagoromo back and leaves the others with Shizo Mikage, the man that had kept her hagoromo back when they were together.
