Who and what is he?

RedXIII is otherwise known as Nanaki. He comes from a game called Final Fantasy 7 and is definatly the most detailed character in all the series and the only four legged creature to be on the good side for once. He could be described as a wolf as his body is thin and his paws are small, like a dogs. His nose, in chracter drawings, is long and thin, suggesting he is more wolf like than cat, however, in the game his jaw seems to be more like a cats. It seems that Squaresoft, the makers of the game, could not decide wether he was wolf or cat either. His posture is cat like but it is still very uncertain as he comes from a town that looks like an Indian settlement and the Indians considered wolves as spiritual creatures.

It is up to you to decide which he is. He could be a mixture between the two as it is a fantasy game but it's up to you to decide.

What does he look like?

Nanaki's species can live for at least five hundred years and at the age of 48, in human years he is only fifteen making him the youngest in the game, but his species are ten times smarter than humans. His age does embaress him for some reason, so he tries to act mature so the others wont ignore him. He is very loyal and an excellent fighter.

He has crimson fur and about the size of a shabby lion (if you can imagine one of them). He has a scar over his right eye which glows green, probably from Mako radiation, and the iris and pupil have turned to white pus. On each of his cheeks is a double green stripe, very indian like, and he has brown, spikey hair with two braids which hand either side of his face. Behind each ear is a blue, tipped feather and in his right ear is a gold earing. On his left shoulder is the 'XIII' tattoo Hojo branded him with and another tattoo pattern lies under that. Also, on his left hind leg is a elaborate, black tatttoo. His tail, is made of a strange gas, which forever glows throughout the game and never goes out.

What's his story so far?

Nanaki grew up in the indian tribe settlement of Cosmo Canyon in the Sunset Lands with the humans in the village and the rest of his species. The town studies the life of the planet and the natural balance it creates around itself. Nanaki was bred and brought up to protect the Canyon from whatever monsters or enemies he could. Nanaki's father was called Seto but he never met him. Instead he was told horrible stories about his father being selfish and unloyal. One of these stories was about when his father fled from the 'Gi' who were attacking the village. Seto had left his own kind and the humans, to be slaughtered in a painful death.

Later his Grandfather, as he is known, or Bugenhagen, adopted Nanaki after his mother dissapeared and showed him what really happened in the battle with his father. Seto had actually gone to the back entrance of the Canyon, where he knew the 'Gi' would come in secretly and he stood to defend it on his own. The 'Gi' numbers were too many for him though and he was overcome by their force and arrows which were dipped in ancient magic and turned him to stone.

After Nanaki saw the statue of his father to prove the story, he felt proud of his father instead of ashamed and vowed to protect his homeland with as much bravery as his father, if the time came again. From then on he gave himself the title, 'Nanaki, Son of Seto'. Before he would have been ashamed to use such a name.

Before he found out about his father, something else affected his life. Hojo, the ruthless and mean scientist of Shinra Inc, captured Nanaki and was branded with the tattoo 'XIII' and given the code name RedXIII as one of his specimens. He was used in a number of horrible and stupid experiments that Nanaki dares not talk about, one that may have given him his strange, gas-like tail. When Avalance, the group wanting to break the Shinra down to save the planet, break into the Shinra headquarters to rescue Aeris, they find Nanaki in Hojo's lab and rescue him as well. He was promised then, that he would get back to his homeland and see his Grandfather.
