Teaching Mission
"To make learning meaningful, memorable, and life long.
To let each student know they are important and belong."

"Students may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel."

Hello and welcome. My name is Mr. Weitkamp and I am an action based learning teacher. Prior to teaching action based learning I taught first grade, fifth grade, fourth grade, and kindergarten. Also, I work with autistic children. I feel very fortunate to work with kid-centered, kind, helpful, and caring teachers.

The purpose of this site is to inform everyone of all the exciting things going on in my classroom and to supply quality educational links for your children to learn from at home. If you have any questions click here to E-mail me. Thank you to all of the wonderful parents and students that make teaching the best profession in the world! Remember NEVER say, "I can't." Say, "I'll try!" and "I will!" ALWAYS try your best and your dreams can come true.

This summer, on July 4th, I will be getting married. My future wifes name is Julia, and she is a neonatologist from Johns Hopkins. She diagnoses, treats, cures, and helps premature babies. I think I have one of the best and most meaningful jobs in the world, but so does she. : ) I look forward to seeing all of my former super smart, sensational, hard working, kind, and cool students next year. Have a superb summer and make sure you keep reading, writing, and working on your math facts.

"A student never failed a class who loved their teacher." Dr. Bosio

"Test scores are not what are most important; it is the life-long learning that matters."

"My good friend Heather Warner from Fox 43 News came in to help grade projects and visit my class. The students did an OUTSTANDING job! Students had wonderful projects like raising money for the SPCA, raising money for Fox 43 charities, teaching younger students gymnastics, and helping younger students improve their reading and writing. The students that raised money for the SPCA were on the TV show "Meet the Pets." Way to go!!"

SUNSHINE FOR CIERRA

Cierra was a precious little angel from my 2003 kindergarten class. She had been a miracle child beating all odds and fighting cancer. On March 17th Cierra lost her battle with cancer. As always, her loving mother was right by her side, holding her in her arms. Her mother held her tightly in her arms and wept for hours until she was able to let her go. It was one of the most heart breaking sights I have ever seen, but such selflessness and compassionate love I have never witnessed. Cierra was an amazing gift from heaven. Everyone that was lucky enough to know her is a better person because of her. Her mother is one of the strongest people I have ever met. She has been through so much and yet always has a smile on her face and was willing to lend a helping hand. As hard as this is and as much as Cierra's life meant to me, I cannot even begin to imagine the loss her mother is feeling. Cierra may be gone for now, but she will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched. Please keep Cierra's family in your thoughts and prayers.

Life is not a matter of milestones, but of moments. Make every moment count!

A ray of sunlight sent to brighten everyones day
Cierra made lifes little problems seem miles away.
Everyone who knew Cierra has a heart that is a little more pure
This is a tough time for all, but we will see her again for sure.
Cierra had a mother that was more like an angel by her side
She held her close and wiped away every tear that she cried.
Her mother helped Cierra always and Cierra helped her mother as well
Their relationship and her loving family makes this a difficult farewell.
So many many questions with no clear answers in our sight
Just like Cierra, we must be strong and fight with all our might.
God once brought his son to live with him for eternity
Cierra is now by his side smiling, laughing, and pain free.

Cierra Angelica Lugo - June 15, 1996 - March 17, 2004

Thank you for teaching me about the truly important things in life.
You touched many lives and will NEVER be forgoten!

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this. "He proceeded to crumple the bill up. He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air. "Well," he replied, "What if I do this? "And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air. "My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value, dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who love you."
The worth of our lives comes not in what we do, how much we have, or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE. You are special - Don't ever forget it. Count Your Blessings, not your problems.

QUOTABLE QUOTE

"There is a wonderful book by Robert Fulghum entitled All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. The title speaks the truth. For example, we learn at a very early age that if we make a mess, we should clean it up. We learn to say 'please' and 'thank you.' We learn that a nap is always nice. We learn that when we go out into the large and sometimes frightening world, it is always comforting to hold hands.

But somewhere in the process of growing up, we tend to forget these simple truths. But they're still there, living inside us. They never die because they are so deeply ingrained. We learn these truths so completely as children because they are communicated to us with great clarity."

Words I Live By

Never work to make a living,
Always work to make a life.
For true measures of succeeding,
Are your actions throughout strife.
Money and awards will be left behind,
When your soul need no longer pray,
But the good you have helped children find,
In God's eyes will always stay.
