Family Giving

One of the wonderful ways to support Girl Scouting is through a generous tax-deductible donation to Family Giving fund. Unlike the registration fee, which is used to pay for insurance and goes to the Girl Scout of U.S.A. headquarters, all funds collected through Family Giving stay right in our local community. This allows our council to offer girls opportunities and adventures through Girl Scout programs that provide leadership development, skill building, community involvement and just plain fun.
A contribution to this fund benefits all Girl Scouts. Some examples of the ways that the Girl Scouts of Northern California council uses these funds is to provide low cost/top quality Girl Scout Programs, girl and volunteer leader training and material, Girl Scout camp maintenance (e.g. Skylark Ranch, Hidden Falls and Rainbows End) and much more.
We are the best advocate for Girl Scouting.
The current economic situation and energy crisis has hit all non-profit organizations especially hard and Girl Scouts is no exception. As Leaders, we are the best advocates for Girl Scouts and we should be encouraging all our troop members to make a donation, large or small, to this important fundraising campaign.
Registration is the perfect opportunity for making a donation to the Family Giving, as it can be included right on the Girl Registration form. Why not write the parents in your troop a short letter, informing them of the benefits of making this tax-deductible donation. Keep a positive attitude about the benefits of Girls Scouts and relay personal experiences to parents. Also, let them know about the incentive that the Service Unit is offering if each family in the troop makes a $5.00 donation (See details below). Attached it to the Girl Registration form.
If no contribution is made to this fund when the Girl Registration form is turned in, you could simply say, "Did you want to make a contribution to Family Giving at this time?" Sometimes, with all the beginning of the school year commotion, parents mean to but just forget. But, please remember that making a contribution to this fund is purely voluntary, so don't make anyone feel guilty or embarrassed for not giving.
Service Unit 38 Family Giving Incentive
Service Unit 38 offers a special incentive to troops who support the Family Giving campaign. All troops who have 100% family participation, with each donation a minimum of $5.00, will receive a an ice cream social for each member of the troop.
