| We receive several e-mail asking which are our judging criteria, so we added this page. Anyway you can find here also a short explanation about how we work.
How do you choose the Sites to be Awarded?
First of all Jean Luc checks all the sites and, after eliminating the sites
- that freeze his two browsers or computer
- containing pictures showing frontal nudity (genitals), sexual acts or banners with porno pictures
- not clearly gay (at times the person who submits the site, in the submission form, defines him/herself as a gay person, but on the site there is nothing showing that!)
- comtaining expressions of hatred or discrimination
- whose URL is incorrect, or whose server refuses the connrction in different day hours and in different days
sends all the other URL to the members of the Great Jury
As you know we are five judges and each of us can give to the submitted site up to ten pts.
Masao
for the html sorurce and for the loading time
Patrizio
for the general layout, graphic aspect and ease of navigation
Michael
for quality and quantity of the content of the site, both general and gay
Ute
for the kind of links and the system used for them
Jean Luc
for the usefulness and the general interest of the site and the frequency of the updates.
We can also give one extra point as a personal bonus to pages we really like, outside of our judging field.
Last, we can give five more points in total for merits or subtract up to five points for demerits.
Merits are:
- sites of parents affirming to be proud of their GLTB son or daughter
- personal site of a GLTB minor coming out
- personal site that is really useful for the gay community or to understand the gay world
- sites full of good content, and not only links or pictures
Demerits are:
- too many animations on one page, or too long pages
- broken links or images
- use of frames (if there is the choice to see no-frames pages, no demerits are given)
- java (not all the browsers can see it)
- music (if there is the choice to start it and to control the volume, no demerits)
So, if you followed this list you see that the total points a site can earn, range between -5 pts and 60 pts.
When all the judges have sent Jean Paul their marks, what happens?
- All the sites earning less than 25 points will be eliminated.
- All the sites earning 50 or more pts, will receive immediately the "Excellence Award".
- All the others, each day, will be put in a queue and the site with the higest score will receive tha "pic 'o day" award for that day.
- Each Sunday the site with the higest score among those having received the "pic 'o day" Award, will be awarded with the "week choice" Award, then each month, the site with the higest score between the week choice awarded sites, will receive the "month's best" Award, and so on for the "season page" and last the "year's first".
I submitted my site, that receives a very good feedback from the visitors, but I didn't get your Award. Why?
If you submitted your site and didn't receive the "pic 'o day" award, there are the following possibilities:
- Your site had been eliminated before being judged, for one of the reasons stated at the beginning of this text
- Your site got less than 25 pts.
- You got too low a mark, so you remain on the run, but each day are surpassed by newcomers earning more pts than your site. You can of course improve the quality of your site and resubmit it.
- The e-mail or the URL you submitted is not right, so we couldn't reach you.
I would like to know how many ts my site scored, or to receive a critique about my Site. Is this possible?
We will never communicate to anybody the points earned by a Site, not even to the webmaster, so please don't ask: you will receive no answer.
Although we are sorry, we cannot send you a critique of your Site. We really have no time for that, because we are at present revising an average of fifteen sites per day, and this figure is slowly but steadily increasing.
Remember that at present there are hundreds of sites having received more than 25 points and that they are on the run for the "pic 'o day" award... so, if you submit your site, it must be better than all the queing sites...
I received the "pic 'o day" Award, but then I didn't get a better Award. Can I re-submit my Site?
Yes, of course you can re-submit it. But it would be usefuk re-submitting it only if you revised thoroughly your Site according to our criteria, and if your Site has, therefore, drammaticaly improved.
At times some Sites, when submitted for the second time, get better marks, so they can reach a better position in the queue. But not good enough to receive a higher Award from us, because there are too many sites with higher scores in the queue.
Remember also that, as the number of submitted sites increases day after day, the competition becomes tougher. For instance, if at the beginning of our program a Site earning 35 pts could get the "week choice", now it will need to earn about 45 pts to reach the head of the queue, having so the chance to be promoted to an higer Award.
