Most of the villages of this district are remote and the people are mainly indulged in agriculture. Paddy, banana, tuber crops such as tapioca and rubber are the main crops. Majority of the people are seasonal daily labourers and agricultural labourers. Blessed by nature, the district is famous for its scenic beauty, fairs and festivals. People of this place belong to different religions and live in harmony. The famous pilgrim centres, Sabarimala and Nilackal are in Pathanamthitta district.

In INDIA

India has almost 900 million inhabitants, the vast majority of whom are Hindus. Hindi is the country's official language but English and many regional languages are also spoken. The climate, too, varies enormously according to region but broadly speaking it is hot and dry for 8 months of the year, until the monsoon brings heavy seasonal rain. This rain is essential to the wet season crops such as rice, millet and maize which, together with wheat and barley planted in the dry season, make India theoretically self-sufficient in food. despite this many rural communities still go hungry.

From its Field Office in Madras, World Vision India helps over 145,000 sponsored children and their families in around 700 projects across the sub-continent.
