XI. Sprite's Concerns

by Jeremy Wayne Couch

I don't want tomorrow.
Let it stay today.
I don't want tomorrow.
That's when you're going away.

I didn't mean it--
that thing I said.
I didn't mean it
when I wished you dead.

If you don't go,
I'll wash your car.
If you don't go,
you can have my guitar.

I only know one song anyway.
I only know one song--
the one you taught me to play.

I don't want your room.
Mine's big enough. I won't complain.
I don't want your room.
I want things to stay the same.

You say college won't make you forget
to remember me.
You say college won't make you forget,
but I'll have to wait and see.
