XLII. Nemesis

for Will

by Jeremy Wayne Couch

"I guess I didn't want to notice the stars gone from your eyes. C'mon Baby I'm much stronger than you know. Sometimes I'm not afraid to let it show. If my heart's soaking wet, Boy your boots can leave a mess." --Tori Amos

Star Wars comics line the wall
Star Wars sheets cover the bed
But no stars glow inside of you
Only darkness fills your head

Oh, you're a dangerous man
You've got dangerous pets
A ferret and a piranha
Just like you, they aren't tame yet

Don't pull that string! I might unravel
It doesn't take much to pull me apart
I'm tired of you shoving
my face in the gravel
I'm tired of you stomping on my heart

I don't like pornography
You say it's harmless
I disagree
Just look at what it's done to me

Your favorit author is Stephen King
Maybe that explains your violent tendencies
You love to sing "I'm Every Woman"
I can't figure out all these incongruencies

Don't pull that string! I might unravel
It doesn't take much to pull me apart
I'm tired of you shoving
my face in the gravel
I'm tired of you stomping on my heart

You like to watch storms at night
Maybe 'cause they mirror
what's inside of you
You had the kittens put to sleep
But still you hear them mew

You said I wanted all the answers
handed to me on a "fucking silver platter"
That's not right, but I guess I was wishing
Foolishly, for a happily-ever-after

Don't pull that string! I might unravel
It doesn't take much to pull me apart
I'm tired of you shoving
my face in the gravel
I'm tired of you stomping on my heart

In the house of my enemy
Star Wars comics line the wall
Star Wars sheets cover the bed
But no stars glow inside of him
Only darkness fills his head
