XXXIV. Apollonius and Lamiai

by Jeremy Wayne Couch

I remember when we both were young
but you were brave and journeyed on
I was too frightened, and perhaps too vain
so in my youth I remained

Now your face is lined
Your hair is grey
Tomorrow will be your final day

Like every fragile flower
you've just one breath
and then it's gone

Don't leave me behind again
my Love, my Life, my only friend
Without you, I can't be whole
Without you, I have no soul

I'm not asking you to struggle
Just take me with you
into the Dawn

Embrace me in the sunlight
I don't want to live forever
Free me from this endless night
And if God is forgiving, we'll be together
