XXV. Eos, goddess of the dawn
for Carla

by Jeremy Wayne Couch

The walls are blue
not a pretty color
The kittens mew
They have lost their mother

Mother may I
May I fly
May I leap into the sky
and never fall, and never die

They're making a sequel to "Fantasia"
"But Mickey will never
fit back into that costume."
Tori is singing "Yes, Anastasia"
I hope you are comfortable in the tomb

Mother may I
May I fly
May I leap into the sky
and never fall, and never die

You're making the rabbits push the cart
their forced labor
warms your heart
What strange, unnatural behaviour

Mother may I
May I fly
May I leap into the sky
and never fall, and never die

Lacey is chasing the Little People
Bradley has knocked the angel
down from the steeple
Her body lies in a strange, unnatural angle

Mother may I
May I fly
May I leap into the sky
and never fall, and never die

Pegasus is lovely, but much too small
to carry my burdens away
"You've been careless,"
says the clock on the wall
"and lost another day."

Mother may I
May I fly
May I leap into the sky
and never fall, and never die

Here in the house of gloam
the walls are blue--not a pretty color
Searching its cluttered rooms I roam
looking for my mother
